fundraising letter from Obama looks like he still doesn't get it.
It is not just the ''pace'' of change, but the KIND of change and who it benefits that we are disturbed with.

We have to figure out a way to tell him to get out of Wall Street, the banks, and insurance companies back pocket or he and the DLC will kill the Democratic Party.

Yesterday's disappointing election results show deep discontent with the pace of change. I know the OFA community and the President share that frustration.

We also saw what we knew to be true all along: Any change worth making is hard and will be fought at every turn. While it doesn't take away the sting of this loss, there is no road to real change without setbacks along the way.

We could have simply sought to do things that were easy, that wouldn't stir up controversy. But changes that aren't controversial rarely solve the problem.

Our country continues to face the same fundamental challenges it faced yesterday. Our health care system still needs reform. Wall Street still needs to be held accountable. We still need to create good jobs. And we still need to continue building a clean energy economy.

The President isn't walking away from these challenges. In fact, his determination and resolve are only stronger. We must match that commitment with our own.

But it won't be easy. Real change never is. For that reason, I am grateful you're part of this fight with us.

Thank you,

Mitch

3. Loyalty is a 2-way street
At some point he's going to have to decide what's more important; loyalty to his party, or the feckless pursuit of unrequited bipartisanship; the people losing their homes, or the bankers. He has squandered a huge amount of good will.

4. No, he works for us, we don't work for him. If he wants us to
stand behind him, then he needs to lead.

6. As soon as he stands up I'll stand behind him
on healthcare, I don't hear him taking any role in making it happen.

13. Agree
If we have his back, much more can be achieved. Instead of weakening him, strengthen him, so he can do more of what we want.

8. The letter in the OP should have been standalone -- i.e. no Donate button
It's nice when I've gotten some mail (postal and email) that merely thank me for a prior donation without asking for a new one...and even have a treat (Grayson's Repub Healthcare Plan bumper sticker is one: "Don't get sick!"). Keith Ellison has done the same.

9. Josh Marshall at TPM..(which get's direction from DNC) is totall confused about Obama...here:
Fluid and Muddle
Josh Marshall | January 21, 2010, 5:50PM

I've been poking around some sources in Washington, DC (and combining this with what I've heard from our TPMDC team) and my sense is that Health Care Reform is both dead and not dead. Let's say it's among the Undead. There does seem to be some continuing effort to see how a Senate bill plus amending bill deal might work -- both for what would be needed in political terms and what would be workable under reconciliation rules. But there's also a lot of happy talk about generally marginal and meaningless reforms that might be pushed through as consolation prizes. And what seems unmistakably clear is that the White House is taking an extremely hands off approach to the whole situation.

My strongest sense however is not so much that decisions have been made to drop reform as that it's something like a matter of survivors walking around -- half dazed -- after some sort of natural disaster. There is no plan. It actually seems highly, highly fluid and possibly susceptible to dramatic change if any of the key players assert themselves. But I'm not sure there's anyone really ready to do that, unless rank-and-file Democrats and Reform supporters assert themselves.

12. that makes sense. The Dems thought they had a plan for long term success but it was an
abysmal failure--people will not tolerate corruption no matter how much happy talk it comes wrapped in.
