Questions to those touting Obama is a one termer
Just a reminder folks...

What happened with Clinton and HC?
What party took over in the midterms during Clinton's presidency?
How many terms did Clinton serve?

1. It's going to come down to jobs, imo.
If unemployment is still 10+ he's in trouble. Clinton had the benefit of a solid economy in '96 (and it was still getting better). If those unemployment numbers come down, even modestly, he should win rather easily.

Of course, I thought Coakley was going to win.....

we may be in big trouble. How do you win in the midst of a longer-term economic collapse? Wall Street accountability. Assign blame and punish.

4. That's still three years out
It's a slow recovery but by then things will most likely have stabilized.

5. He definitely has time to right the ship and do things to win dissatisfied people back.
I hope he does. I'm cynical (of all politicians, not just Obama) so I don't know if that will happen or not, but we'll see.

6. There is no way unemloyment will still be over 10% three years from now
And if it is... he deserves to be thrown out.

10. Why does he deserve to be thrown out for someone else's bad economic decisions?

16. "there is no way?" There is no such thing
as "no way." WHAT IF unemployment still is above 10%? We just give up? Let the Republicans have the White House back? I personally think there is a very high likelihood that things will be economically far worse, not better, in 3 years, regardless of what Obama does. So if he, and we, want to win, we better figure out how to do it under those conditions. Praying for a miracle is not a political strategy.

12. I agree. I believe unemployment may be a bigger issue with voters than HCR. nt

18. I think people will ask "How much has Obama CHANGED?"
Obama ran on Change and promised it to Americans...it's why they voted for him. If he doesn't follow up on that and make an attempt to change the system...I won't say he'll lose, but he'll definitely lose some support and the race for his re-elected will be a lot closer than people want

8. I don't WANT him to be one term, but I think his chances of being one
are very good right now. Of course, it is way too early for this, and there is no one on the Dems who would run against him.

9. It's too early to say.
A lot can happen (both good and bad) in 3 years.

11. and another reminder
Bill Clinton was a 4-term governor with a lifetime of dealing with adversarial legislatures, not to mention he was one of the most skilled political operatives I have ever seen.

Obama was a minority state senator except for one year when they had the majority, and never even finished his one Senate term. Maybe he's got the mojo for the Clinton-type presidency, but the evidence is less than obvious.

13. Oh he was "skilled," alright. Little did we know the damage it
would cause and I'm not referring to lewinsky, either.

15. Exactly
People bitch about Obama and the job he's doing, but how hard it's been is proof that he's taking the major issues head on.

When you attack the entrenched special interests, they always fight back with unholy force, and that's why it's so hard to change things. Obama is on the right track.

17. I hope you are right, but I don't think Clinton lost as much Democratic support this early.
People need to give Obama a chance.
