Bush could get away with it, because he was the opposite - a crude idiot having to practice to sound intellectual (if indeed he ever succeeded). But Obama, Harvard educated, brilliant, should NOT have to effect a somewhat crude-ish tone just because he is talking to different audiences. Whoever coached him to do that was totally off the mark, IMHO.

1. Um...Bush was educated at Yale and Harvard.

And Bush is the son and grandson of a millionaires. Obama is much closer to being "common folk" than Bush.

2. Bush's way into there was "bought". You can convince me he ever earned or accomplished anything.

3. Fer cryin' out loud. NOW he's annoying you? Is this the first speech
you've ever heard President Obama give? And what did he say that was crude?

Jeeze.

8. I was in Raleigh at the event when he spoke. He was incredible.
I've watched him give countless speeches. He is remarkable. Today's felt false and manipulated in tone. Sorry, that's how I heard it.

12. No, it wasn't. Sorry if I have an opinion that is counter to the masses here.
I happen to believe that you should be what you are, not pander to an audience - and it is quite suspicious to me coming after such a rough week. I am pretty pissed off at how Democrats in general have been fumbling so many balls. And though I still support Obama, and understand patience is needed, I am not seeing him steer the ship in the right direction sufficiently - never mind reaching where it needs to go.

Why didn't you post that instead on this contrived crap about how he sounded? He sounded the same as always.

6. You say that because you are not a dumshit
Dumshits love it when people talk like a dumshit.

They don't think it is patronizing, they don't know WTF "patronizing" means.

You just can't think the same way that stupid ignorant assholes think.

10. I heard the President giving a speech
a good speech. And I listened to all the Q & A. I did not hear anything patronizing. Sounded like he did on the campaign trail.

Did you ever hear the times when Bush was not talking like "a crude idiot" as you say? Most of the time when he was not on camera, he could actually string sentences together. Now HE was a guy who was faking it.

11. Maybe not lingo but a bad day. He said "here in "Michigan" and was just lackluster overall.Hopefully
the SOTU will be better. I bet it will be wonderful.

13. I listened to it and did not hear anything folksy.
I saw the audience playing close attention. I also think he has improved since he first started campaigning.

18. I thought he was good..
President Obama always impresses me with his speaking ability.

I didn't like that this is called the "White House to Main Street Tour".

Tour? I dunno, something sounds strange about that to me.

Other than that, I liked his speech as usual. I am pretty sure his SOTU wil be awsome.

One thing that could help Obama is if we could encourage Bush Jr. to go out and speak more. Every time Jr. opens his mouth, Obama looks just that much better in comparison.

It made me cringe.
