Anyone who has seen that movie (An American President) will remember that Andrew Shepard was working on controversial legislation...in the movie it was gun control. He wanted to also work on Climate Change, but was afraid that he wouldn't have the votes to get meaningful legislation passed.
All the while - the GOPers and the Religious Right were walking all over him, trashing him constantly....looking for a way to destroy his presidency so they could get back in power.
And Andrew Shepard stayed quiet. His staff wanted him to speak out against the lies. He wouldn't. His approval numbers began to slip. He remained quiet. He thought the people would get it and he didn't need to stand up for what he believed it - he just assumed the base would understand.
Then one day....just before his State of the Union....President Andrew Shepard snapped. He stood up and showed passion for what he believed in, He fought back! the base cheered.....and he won re-election.
Of course, Obama is not sleeping with a lobbyist (I don't think Michelle is a lobbyist:)) But I am sure hoping that Obama had his Andrew Shepard moment.

2. Shepard was a gun grabber |

"I'm going to go door to door and I'm going to get the guns"
Gee, why don't you just go ahead and write the attack ads for your opponent right there?

3. That is my mother's favorite movie... |
|
... or one of them. I will NEVER forget one day she was watching it and there's that scene where "the President" storms into the press briefing room to talk to the pool. "Oh! That never happens!" I told her. And then LITERALLY the next day... http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Obama+Holds+News+Conference+Brady+Press+Briefing+6oGJFm9SZdEl.jpg

5. This is a fictional film where the President is played by an actor. It was written |
|
by scriptwriters.
Call me back in time for the scene where Obama flies in silhouette across the face of the moon on a bicycle.

No shit it's a movie...but one can hope Obama has the moment where he wakes up and realizes it's time to fight back.
