Republican Response... Democratic Response? |
|
Maybe I'm still a little new to the political game and, admittedly, I don't think I ever sat through an entire Bush SOTU (or else I may have had to gouge my own eyes and eardrums out), but I don't ever recall hearing about a televised "Democratic Response" after all of his speeches. Did that ever happen, or is this just something that the GOP gets to do after every time a Democrat says something on TV (you know, to be "Fair and Balanced" and all that tripe)? Depending upon the answer to that question, I will either be surprised, not surprised, enraged, or amused. Yeah, I think that about covers it.

that the other side always was allowed to give the response. I was too young to really pay attention with George HW but I assume this has been going on for a long time. Both parties are able to do it.

4. Ah, ok. Just seemed like it may have been one of those "new rules" that seem to arise |
|
when the Dems are in power (you know, like suddenly NEEDING 60 votes to get ANYTHING done in the Senate). Thanks for the info. :)

8. No problem. Here it is per wikipedia: |
|
Since 1966, the speech has been followed on television by a response or rebuttal by a member of the political party opposing the President's party. The response is typically broadcast from a studio with no audience. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_the_Union_addressSo, since Lyndon Johnson.

6. There's a trick to this. Turn the television off right after Obamas speech. |
|
It gives the added benefit of not having to listen to the inane analysis also. Polling data, etc.

Since when have the republicans "not" had a response to anything the democrats have said? Everytime Obama said or did anything positive, the republicans try to take responsibility for it. If it's negative, they had nothing to do with it!
That's what they do. If you can't do anything positive, take credit for somebody else's good deeds. When Clinton turned things around, they said it was because of "their" congressional control. When it got bad, it was all the democrats fault. Sounds kinda like a 5 yr old, doesn't it. That's what we are dealing with.....idiots.

10. I'd actually like to see the *DEMOCRATIC* response to Obama's speech. Better yet, Bernie Sanders'... |
|
...response! Now that would likely be a barn-burner!!
