I promised her a personal apology after doubting yesterday that President Obama would call for repeal of DADT in his State of the Union speech tonight.

It seems as though he is going to do exactly that, and jenmito, I sincerely apologize for doubting that he would.

As the father of a teenage gay daughter, this is a very important issue to me and I've gritted my teeth for a year waiting for this very day.

Jennicut and Clio the Leo, if you happen to read this, my apologies to both of you as well.

When I hear President Obama ask Congress to repeal this idiotic piece of legislation tonight, I am sure I will get misty. And you can be sure my daughter and I will be trading text messages. It's a step in the right direction, and in one fell swoop takes away more than half of the disappointment I've been feeling.
