"And if the Republican leadership is going to insist that sixty votes in the Senate are required to do any business at all in this town, then the responsibility to govern is now yours as well. Just saying no to everything may be good short-term politics, but it’s not leadership. We were sent here to serve our citizens, not our ambitions."

11. "Not leadership"... Dead On.. |
|
They couldn't argue with that. President had some good ways to frame things tonight that have been bottlenecked.
Can't be easy giving that Pep Talk with so many flatearthers in the room.

15. Yup, that was a great way to sum it up. And I hope he keeps hammering the theme... |
|
... that surrounded that line, or that part of the speech:
They're ALL there -- Dems and Repubs, Congress and the Pres -- to Get Things Done! for the American people.
And if he needs to start calling out knuckleheads by name, he should do so.
I feel he should have been taking this approach right along, speaking powerfully and forcefully in a direct conversation with the American people -- and making it clear where the problems in government lie.
He hasn't done so. In fact, as many others have pointed out, he has seemed too willing to embrace the failed narrative of conservatism, which is indeed the cause of all our problems today.
But if last night's speech marks a sincere break with all that, then it could prove to be quite a turning point for this administration's fortunes. Which, of course, affects the fortunes of us all.
