Here's a thought I've had. I think President Obama is once in a generation, |
|
and we will never get a man who is so thoughtful again, at least in my lifetime. I'm pushing 54.
I hope I'm wrong, but I do believe this man is a jewel we should embrace.

1. I believe you're right... |
|
And even though I have taken exception with how he has handled some of his first year, I agree that he is a jewel to be embraced.
I am older than you are, and I don't expect to see another such in my lifetime...
We must exhort him to do his best.
To allow the better angels of his nature to be frequently expressed.

6. I'm 60 and I agree Pres Obama is a rare jewel. |
|
Although I embraced both Clinton and Carter, probably the last president in my lifetime comparable to Obama would be JFK. FDR was just before my time.
I'm just praying that President Obama gets two full terms in which to continue undoing the Bush legacy and to tip the balance safely to the left in the Supreme and other courts.

7. FDR was elected President when I was born ... |
|
and for the first few years of my life I remember feeling good about the country and our President. Now, we've come full cycle after sinking many times into a morass of Republican dung, the last decade the worst of all. Thank God for Barack Obama.

4. I have said this many times here, 'sister, |
|
and it was never truer than tonight. He is a once in a LIFETIME leader, and I put him up there with Lincoln, FDR, and King.
He schooled those Republicans tonight; he shamed the childishness, waste and pettiness in Congress - on both sides of the aisle. I cried tonight. I had been quite disappointed in him recently; listening to commentators I really respect and believe are thoughtful: Schultz, Hartmann, Mark Thompson. I'll be very interested to hear what they say tomorrow. I am really changed by his speech - and I was on guard for pretty words alone. I was looking for spirit. I found it. I cried for my own shame in losing faith. I will do everything in my power to support this President, this man, this leader and, dare I say, this prophet.

5. It's considered a 'conservative' speech, but it rocked! So he spoke |
|
to everyone!
And please, keep the faith. I have for a long time, and it's worth it.

9. There have been two presidents, in my 62 years, |
|
whose oratorical abilities have inspired. I remember Eisenhower, and thinking that he looked and sounded like a grampa. In contrast, Nixon looked (to my pre-teen self) like a hoodlum. Kennedy was my first political 'wow'. Even my dad, a lifelong and very ardent republican, considered Kennedy's speaking to be exemplary. I never caught the 'great communicator' bug from Reagan, I always thought he came off like a salesman pushing tainted goods. Clinton was good because he could marshall details and facts and present them coherently at the drop of a hat. But Obama's speaking is the first since JFK to evoke the appreciation for style as well as substance; there needs to be an elegance of thought preceding such elegance of speech. He's setting the bar very high, putting it back where it belongs, and I'm thrilled about it.

10. You said it very well, and this 62 y.o. agrees with you. ... |
|
I hope to be listening to him when I'm 70, because he's a once-in-a-generation POTUS.

11. I'm 54 will be 55 next month. I've always thought this. |
|
A once in a generation type person.
I can't imagine anyone else being president right now. Right at this moment in time and I can't imagine that even those who don't like him know deep down in their hearts that he's the only one that should be sitting there, right now, right at this moment in time.

I am a Gen Xer (34 years old) and while I liked Bill Clinton, I think Obama has the ability to be better.

If he could just do it all alone, we would be out of this mass already.

ew, that sounds like I'm trying to upstage you...which is NOT what I mean!!!
I mean, I sensed something powerful and different about him early on; just seems to emanate light.....though I admit I was feeling pretty worried lately, hearing only the worst (much of it here!).
It was awesome to see the power, integrity and smarts that I saw in the beginning.

17. I'll recommend this thread, but I think you're wrong. |
|
This country is full of jewels like him. We need to keep our politics a more open process and we'll find a few rising to the top.
But you're right that we should embrace him. If only so the closer we hug him, the less likely he is to play footsie with Wall Street.
