He Gets It And He's Been Playing Chess All Along......
I just can't get over how well he came across tonight. He hit every salient issue out there and I must say to my satisfaction. Go Obama. He's not going to be just a 1-term president.

2. I would be more excited if we'd seen a few key pieces captured
...if he's playing chess, I'd like to see some game development in our favor... or is it not use he's playing FOR, perhaps?

3. Unemployment extension and COBRA
Funny, when the Senate said they were cutting these programs, everybody howled. And yes they're apparently nothing when people are looking for "pieces captured". Is the $8 billion for high speed a "key piece"? Is housing weatherization a "key piece"? Is electric vehicle infrastructure in 11 cities, a "key piece"? Is the Matthew Sheperd Act? Lily Ledbetter? Millions of acres of wilderness? Closing Gitmo? Ending torture? New GI Bill? Mexico City? Arms Reduction? Saving us from economic collapse?

I mean just how much does a person have to accomplish in a year to be considered a success to you?

What did you accomplish this year?

13. Tilting at windmills
Oh, and FYI, Gitmo is hardly closed. Torture has not ended. Increasing the defense budget isn't arms reduction. Exempting the defense budget from cuts or a freeze is not waging peace.

Where's the man we elected?

5. Unrec. You may be right, but this checkers/chess cliché is so damn old and tired.
Who cares what the game is, when the object is results?

6. Chess is and always was a metaphor for the game of politics.
Anybody who didn't think Obama doesn't do politics, or wouldn't, or wouldn't know exactly what he was doing and do it well (i.e. play chess) has shit for brains.

8. So what? It's still a cliché, especially here on DU.
No one cares whether he plays like Fischer or not. Results are all that anyone will pay attention to.

11. OK, you don't care. Some people do.
Me? I don't care whether it's used or not. I do enjoy people's enthusiasm, including the enthusiasm of the OP.

Why rain on their parade?

Obama did well tonight. Let's be happy, the previous 8 SOTUs were shitty.
:fistbump:

14. If that were true then he would be evil
I prefer to think certain bad things that happen are innocent errors rather than ingenious planning.

For instance, if Obama had planned to get unemployment up to 10% so as to make a subsequent chess move more awesome he would be a sociopath.

15. President Obama is always thinking
of how to get it done..and it can't be easy with so many wishing for his failure.
