1. That's the problem with those supposed "I was a Republican
but now I'm a Democrat" people. Once in a while, their true colors come shining through.

8. Ed has been the one to challenge the Dems to follow through
on their rhetoric. What is the matter with that?

22.  Ed cracked me up tonight saying ...
.... that the President had some stern words for everyone "the Republicans, even the Democrats and don't forget the Supreme Court."

He very conveniently left out the cable news pundents .... I cant help but wonder after the exchange Ed and Gibbs had last week that the President didn't have Ed (and others) in mind when he wrote that line. ;)

2. It seems she was more interested in taking down George Bush
her transformation from right winger was greatly exaggerated.

13. I have wondered if it's just been a marketing strategy.
She probably makes more money when she's being critical of whoever is in power.

I don't mind criticism of the President but her's is mindless.

10. I find her personally annoying, but I think her criticisms are usually valid
Obama's speech seemed very Clintonesque. Great style and feisty in a partisan sense.....But not much nutrition

12. Clinton declared the era of big govt. was over in one of his SOTU speeches
I didn't see that with Obama last night. To keep promoting health care reform, to rebuke the Supreme Court, the bank fee and tougher regulations on banks, to call out the Rethugs on obstruction was a bit different then Clinton. The thing with the deficit seemed to be calling out Rehtugs to actually claim they care about it. I thought it was well done in casting the Rethugs as the party of no. And the call to repeal DADT (finally-took too long in my opinion).

14. So did Obama in a different way -- He's basically saying...
Edited on Thu Jan-28-10 11:04 AM by Armstead
"Right now we're in a state of emergency, so we have to do some spending. But once we get out of the woods, the era of big government will be over."

He echoed Clinton in many otehr ways....he said the problem with "free trade" is that we don't have enough free trade....He avoided the basic fact that the problems with the financial system is NOT just the bad behavior of a few executives. The real problem is having a handful of monopolistic mega banks that can bring down the economy in a week....etc.

The basic fact is that over the last 30 years, the economy and political system has been perverted and distorted in a systemic, structural way, and we are now paying the price. The problem will not be fixed simply by wagging fingers at the GOP or asking the Financial Oligarchs to be nicer.

We continue to ignore that at our peril.

15. It all depends on if Congress will pass the Volcker rule.
Obama does need to get serious about it or people will not trust his words. I do think he had an effective speech.

18. She's starting to look like
she is just promoting herself, not expressing any valid political points. I've found it harder and harder to listen to her.

and frequently misrepresents herself as some sort of liberal.

19. Arianna must not be able to understand english very well. That speech was all about the middle class
What kind of BS game is she playing? Oh wait, if she criticizes him she gets to go on TV and talk about her opposition and appear fair and balanced. Thus, promote her site to RW'ers who will go to post their negative feedback from the speech.

21. Some folks

are completely unrealistic. In addition, President Obama can not effect meaningful change by himself without support, never mind the constant mewling from critics.

I know what happens if Republicans return to power. I'm not certain what will happen if I stand by President Obama for his term. I plan on doing just that and evaluating if further support is warranted when his first four are up.
