I am kind of sad Obama spanked the repubs so soundly |
|
Edited on Sat Jan-30-10 12:22 PM by dkf
I liked hearing his reasoning and thought process. But I don't think they will allow it again.
That is the problem. Everyone is so interested in winning they won't debate the issue in front of the public.

7. The fact that the repukes thought they had the upper hand before the fact.. |
|
is just hilarious to me.
It tells me that they actually believe all the bullshit that they spew about Democrats and the President.
"He's just a celebrity (so he's really not very smart), he just gives a good speech."
They convinced themselves, through Limbaugh and Faux alternate realities, that their bullshit is the truth, and it ended up biting them in the ass.

27. Yeah... Their old, predictable talking points aren't much use when removed from talk radio context |
|
Tax cuts, tax cuts, tax cuts, less government, tax cuts, less regulation, tax cuts, less government... I mean in something like health insurance reform I don't see how the federal government could possibly get any more hands off than they already are.
As Obama said in his appearance, the GOP offers political assertions that have no substantial policy basis. We need things that can actually be implemented and get results. They score points in the chatterbox news cycle but when the policy is examined for more than fifteen seconds it has no chance of being feasible. It's great for making people angry at Democrats and scoring votes but not so great when it comes to governing.

|
Someone in their party should have shown them the footage of Obama destroying McCain in the debates during the '08 campaign. It's pretty amusing that they bought into the caricature. This isn't George W. Bush we're talking about here, yet they bought into the idea that he was similarly stupid.

he does not fear them. Standing up to bullies is the only way to stop them.
If Democrats had been standing up to GOP over the years, the country would be a better place.

It's on video in its entirety and takes its place among the films that will be used to teach students of rhetoric (the real kind) and history. It doesn't matter what the GOP does anymore. They've been punked and they know it and it's their fault.

and it's not the biggest story out there. We know it was a smackdown because we saw it. I just don't think that many people saw it. I guess it will be interesting to see how the Sunday pundits spin it. But, I'm thinking they won't call it a smackdown.

The Repugs want to score political points and destroy the Obama Presidency. The Republicans can't debate what they don't have so there is no way they would ever win.....so they take the other route....

with CSPAN cameras of course. If they refused they would seem very non-partisan. And if they agreed, but refused to do so with cameras - bingo! - They just admitted they have to hide their incompetence in the face of a superior intellect and adversary! And if they accept, they get spanked again - harder!!! :spank:

You mean everyone in the Repub caucus? Obama has clearly shown that he does want to debate this stuff in public. Granted, maybe that is also a sign that he wants to win because he knows a public debate will reflect well on him and poorly on them.

they were trounced, virtually the entire House R's came out of this looking like a bunch of 1st graders. There was posturing aplenty by the R's, but absolutely nothing of substance. He did one of those things we see so rarely we are astounded when it happens...he actually spoke of viable policies and how he made decisions , he came off as intelligent and had valid answers for their questions, questions that we have heard time and again without any answers of their own.
Far more people watched this in one form or another, either live, replay or clips, and what they saw was a GOP that is adrift, looking for something to stick politically and can't find that one piece that will stick. On the other hand, even those who do not agree w/PO saw a leader, someone who is in command of his decision making process, someone who is willing to get into the dirt and wrestle with problems, find solutions and enact them. He beat them at their own game. He didn't have to do much homework, didn't have to have the questions presented to him beforehand, he knew what they would be, the R's haven't had anything knew in a decade, they have painted themselves into a corner and don't know how to get out. The president trounced them.
I've been going outside of the US media to read the reactions to what happened...the world took note, and the president came out of this with wildly higher respect from allies and enemies alike. It seems that the only people who didn't learn anything from this are the rabid neo-cons...as soon as they saw what happened, they grabbed their buckets of paint and proceeded to make that corner they're in, just a little bit smaller.
I wish I were a fly on the wall during the R "leadership" meetings after this...to hear "Oh shit" repeated over and over again would be sweet music to my ears...:D

39. Then Brian Lamb can write them a letter complaining because they |
|
won't air these sessions on C-SPAN. After all of the Republicans griping about Obama not being open it can certainly, and will, be turned back around on them. They stepped in it with their griping about Obama not being transparent enough. Now he's trying to be in a very public way and they are whining. Too bad.
