L.A. Times dropped a turd on the front page of its print edition
Edited on Sat Jan-30-10 01:33 PM by Zomby Woof
"No Meeting of Minds: The president's appearance at a GOP conference in Baltimore devolves into finger-pointing and gamesmanship."

The article goes on to describe (with my emphasis added):

They handed Obama a thick document with Republican policy proposals when he was introduced at the event.

:wtf: Yeah, if eggshells are thick, maybe.

This is what we're really up against, every day, from here on the 'net, to the radio, teevee, and what's left of print. Doesn't matter what you saw. Rachel, Keith and Matthews can't stem the tide alone. It's fixed, in a way that makes pro sports referees blush.

Just a morning buzzkill for y'all. Carry on. :hangover:

1. We also need to remember that the only people that saw the whole thing...
are Dems and Progressives that watch MSNBC. Middle of the afternoon on a Friday not very many people watched it live and we know that no Faux watcher would ever have MSNBC on.

Everybody else will be getting their "impressions" from what they read and hear. Like this claptrap.

2. A few CNN viewers and CSPAN junkies too
But yeah, the viewers were few and far between. We're fucked, as per usual, when it comes to controlling and framing the message - and most of all, the agenda.

5. Was disappointed when I picked up the Times this AM
By default they are doing two things

1. Leaving the impression that the Republicans have brains (minds)
2. Obama was not successful at his attempt at bipartisanship.

At least I didn't have to look at the OC Register.

6. I turned on the tube this morning ...
and (I think it was) Today had a spin that gave the repukes credit for asking hard questions, and President Obama was left without answers. The corporate media strikes again.

7. Just wait till October when the corporations
can spend unlimited dollars without restrictions per the latest
ruling from SCOTUS. President needs to appoint more progressive
justices on SCOTUS ASAP.

9. The coverage is entirely predictable
Edited on Sat Jan-30-10 09:15 PM by depakid
Giving these morans a stage to mouth off and present "workable ideas" -elevating them to prominence with the President of the United States only raises their stature and legitimizes their positions.

People think they scored points with Obama methodically deconstructing their hogwash in this ultimately pointless exercise.

They did not- because almost no one watched (or could stomach watching) the whole thing in detail.

The resulting coverage is a different matter- and it's going to help turn the "party of no" into the party of alternative ideas (which to the unsophisticated- or to those who pay little attention) will appear attractive to many when when compared with the results of Democratic half measures in 2010.

10. This is old media...tv, newspapers. The twitter feed after the meeting was way more telling.
Edited on Sat Jan-30-10 09:18 PM by Jennicut
Only the oldest of the old school pay attention to the crap the traditional media gives out anymore. Many people hear about things through the internet and that is how things spread. These newspapers losing money...how many readers do they have left anyway? I can read tons of articles online and share stuff with others for free.

12. No but the internet plays an important role in changing the way some things are seen.
The younger generation in Iran used it to great effect for a short while. And really, the big media only wants certain messages to get through.

13. Ya know, I downloaded that doc just to see what was in it.
Most of it was already in the House and Senate bill. The rest was just crap that, like Obama said, wouldn't work.
