7. How many people do you think actually refer to either as arrogant?
Hell, do a quick Google search:

Results 1 - 10 of about 965,000 for "barack obama" "arrogant". (0.26 seconds)

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=%22barack+obama+%22arrogant%22&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=

Now for McCain:

Results 1 - 10 of about 471,000 for "john mccain" "arrogant". (0.14 seconds)

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=%22john+mccain%22+%22arrogant%22&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=

965,000 hits to 471,000.

It's no contest. And many of those hits on the McCain page are actually calling OBAMA arrogant. :eyes:

16. Yes, Lindsay Graham, McCain and Bohner are uppity, racist
repukes!

And Pres. Obama spent a good part of yesterday putting those repukes in their place - calling them by their first names, shutting down their whiny arguments before they get them fully articulated. Obama "OWNED" those repukes yesterday. And he never even raised his voice!

12. Why post if you don't care what anyone thinks? Arrogant is NOT code for "uppity"
"uppity" usually means acting above yourself and the implication is that you are stupid and trying to be something you are not. Arrogant almost never is associated with stupid. All pols are called arrogant at one time or another and all of them, including the president, are. It is their arrogance that makes them think they should be elected. Arrogance is used for the description of condescending behavior. In order to display arrogance, or to flaunt superiority, one has to possess qualities to condescend from. Actually, The GOP describing Obama as arrogant is a compliment. They feel condescended to.Justly so, I might add. They deserve it.

15. Disagree. When it comes to the President and the context in which it's used,
it is.

They trot it out every time he displays any measure of strength in challenging anything. They don't like a black man acting from a position of power AND knowledge. It's threatening to them.

19. Bingo. If he weren't black, maybe not.
On the other hand, if he weren't black, they wouldn't be calling him arrogant. When was the last time you heard a white politician called "arrogant." (Maybe Gore in the 2000 Presidential debates, but other than that...)

23. I agree with you- we have to better-learn conservative code-speak
Yes, the word is often used to describe politicians of all stripes, colors and gender. The word itself does not always translate to uppity.

"Uppity" is not a word that we associate with white men. Unfortunately, in our culture, it IS often associated with black men, even in this day and age, though you rarely hear it being used today. It's become as old-fashioned or politically-incorrect as "colored".

But the frequency and context in which it is applied to Obama makes me agree that it's being used as a code word for "uppity". Conservatives are masters at using code words. They've made a science out of it. Liberals no so much. That's why they're so effective for conservatives - they go straight over the heads most of us.

28. well I agree and disagree with you ; )
The part I disagree with relates to Liberals and code words. It is not that Liberals can't master the use of code words but rather Liberals shy away from using code words. We don't tend to want to be a part of a "club" that use little clues to impress others where as repubs love to be included with the group think.

35. You're wrong. It's obvious that it's code for uppity _______. It's because those who
call him that don't feel he "deserves" to be president and has some NERVE thinking he can be president. They can't stand a Black man having a "higher rank" than them and so they use "acceptable" words to express their racism.
