he's still seems to believe that not every gop pig has dastardly motives, but he recognizes that IS part of it.

3. Durenberger is the only Republican I ever voted for |

The first time he ran for the senate he was actually more liberal than the guy running as the DFL candidate (who had defeated our endoresed candidate in the primary).
I believe Durenberger has pretty much cut his ties with the Republican party - he's way too sane for the nuts running it now.

5. Pretty sure he is a convicted criminal... |
|
According to Wiki he was denounced by the US Senate, disbarred, and plead guilty to misuse of public funds.
Not really someone most people would want to advertise as having on their side.
I knew there was a reason I hadn't heard his name in many years.

6. He's still quite influential in political circles here |
|
He was an anti-Reagan Republican who defeated a pro-Reagan Democrat (Bob Short) for his second Senate term.
He supported Obama in 2008 and Kerry in 2004.
He (and his attorney) messed with the dates of a condominium sale to avoid taxes and was censured by the Senate so did not run for an additional term. It seems a minor offense now, doesn't it, compared to what other senators are accused of and survive.
Some people think it was made a major issue because he opposed the Reagan agenda.
