Rachel just dropped a bomb on Bart Stupak's head
Edited on Thu Mar-04-10 09:30 PM by Nancy Waterman
OMG!! She pointed out that he has paid $600 a month for a swanky room with meals in the Capital Hill C Street mansion for years which amounts to a big donation or subsidy. Did he pay taxes on it? Did he declare it? Who subsidized him? She just handed the Dems ammunition against him just as he battles to thwart health care reform. Expect a lot of huffing and puffing from him over the next few days on this one.

1. She pointed out that he was a major liar as well, especially on the subject of The Family.
Just another religious zealot who wants to impose his fantasy world on the rest of us.

2. Room in nice place by capital, maid service and food
I figure that worth $3000 at least a month. So why isn't everyone who lives there for less getting in trouble for the extra $$$$$.

3. Yea but the problem is that the Dems getting handed
tons of ammunition and they refuse to use it to destroy these guys. The MSM won't cover it unless the internet gets the fires going.

19. just think if the dems had 1000 radio stations for coordinated repetition,
they could actually compete. barring that it is the biggest political blunder in a century that the left collectively has no clue that the only reason they keep getting punked and the GOP is still obstructing is because they continue to ignore those 1000 radio stations.

4. I saw that! Go Rachel!
:bounce:

Is it just me, or does Stupak have a similar look to John Edwards,
only with Grey Hair and a crooked nose and a different mouth?

15. Saw him for the 1st time this morn. VERY underwhelming. Monosyllabic.
He is an empty suit who's told what to think, how to act and what to say by the dominionists.

5. One really has to have an investigative
team checking into certain pols' records to see if they live their lives like they try and screw up others'.

Thanks, Nancy~

8. If it isn't picked up by any other news source, it's a dead issue
If MSNBC doesn't even mention it on another show, it's dead.

CNN won't and you KNOW Fox won't.

If CNN mentions it, I'll get excited.

9. I hope an accidental wire tap catches the C Street crowd in the same type scandal -
that is being exposed at the Vatican.

I have no doubt that half of those guys are cock suckers.

11. Think a step ahead, folks. If unreported subsidized rent is a problem for Stupak...
it's likely as big a problem for several dozen wingnut religious wackos in Congress.

12. It clearly is a problem for the C Street bunch
And Rachel has a way of making stories come alive. I don't think we have seen the end of this one. No one lives in a fancy place with meals and maid service in that part of DC for $600. The Family denies subsidizing them, so who does? And if it is the Family, what do they get in return? A light bulb went off in my head when she described the room and the cost. She will probably repeat some of the germane details again next week.

13. Unfortunately, Nancy Waterman, the stories that Rachel makes come alive, usually only
come alive in the minds of her viewers. I love Rachel. She is my hero, but I don't know of any major change that has been wrought by her making a story come alive. If you do, please tell me.

As someone else said, if it gets traction on the other major media shows it will be worth something other than an Attagirl from the liberals who watch the Rachel Show.

16. Actually, C Street lost part of its Church tax exemption......
recently, after a Maddow story.

You see bertman, the only people that have to care are the authorities
that have the ability to follow up on this,
regardless of the "media's" reaction...or that of citizens.

If what Stupik was doing, in terms of not reporting as a gift, a contribution in kind,
or as income.... the different between fair market value of the place where he stayed,
and how much he actually paid, then that's an issue for the IRS, as well, the Ethic's committee....
so it looks to me like there is the opportunity for a little bit of hardball here,
regardless of who picks up this story from that "liberal" Attagirl reporting to
those "Liberals" who watch the show.

20. My response was regarding making a story "come alive", which to me means that it gets
media legs and the publicity that brings it before the American people for their edification.

As far as having a positive effect, you are right, Frenchie. Your example of the C Street tax exemption being rescinded is an absolutely positive success story, but I doubt that even a small fraction of the American people know this has occurred.

(202) 225 4735

I'll be dialing him first thing Monday. Sorry in advance, Stupak staffer, for ruining your day!

on..whoa!

What is it with these dogmatic "religious" types who want to dictate how others should live their lives because they're racked with guilt?

So the saga continues..who helped Bart Stupak(homophobe) pay his in kind rent on C Street?

21. Rachel covered it again tonight
She brought on the Ohio pastor who has organized a suit of 14 (?) pastors against the church status of C street. The suit came directly out of her covering the story of C street on her show. I have also seen coverage in the Washington Post and elsewhere about C street after she covered it. She also got some movement about the Uganda anti-gay legislation after covering it on her show. Several politicians came out against it after she covered the story.
