WH Leaning towards MILITARY TRIALS for 9/11 Suspects

*sigh* Need i say more. The comments on HP are exploding with rightful negativity towards Obama. Wish this guy would stand strong for one thing without compromises.

3. Make a decision and STICK WITH IT
THIS is a sign of weakness, and the GOP will continue these tactics... especially since this will be viewed AS WORKING.

Another disappointment from Obama. I am tired of supporting this man.

5.  From fuckhead..
People capable of critical thinking adapt when a different course is needed.

I don't know the particulars on why they're thinking of a military trial now but they must have their reasons.

Rahm was for military tribunals from the beginning. That says nothing about what the President's intent is.

How many Democrats in congress are against civilian trials? If the answer not 100% or even near 100%, you just told a falsehood.

By the way. We're not supposed to be governed according to what polls say.

I'd love to know how much Americans know about how the military tribunals work and how successful the Federal Court has been in trying suspected terrorists in the past.

19. Congress does not want to fund it and the local officials in NY, VA, and PA
don't want the trials there. The majority of the public is against it but really, how do you educate stupidity?

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-02-24/congress-must-fund-trial-of-9-11-terror-suspects-official-says.html
Talks about the funding.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0310/33965.html
Discusses that officials in other states don't want the trial to be in their state.

Obama is trying to close Gitmo most importantly and that involves on moving people to other prisons and getting others trials. The stupidity of other Dems and Mayor Bloomburg is pretty sickening.

"Bloomberg, Schumer, DEMS. in congress, not to mention the public, are ALL against it." I meant all of those elements I mentioned-not all people in those categories. And according to these articles:

"Republicans are capitalizing on broad popular opposition to allowing terrorist suspects held at Guantánamo to have their day in civilian courts, painting Democrats as soft on al-Qaeda. Democratic lawmakers are scrambling to distance themselves from the issue, and the Administration has been forced to change its plans...

The collapse of Holder's plan to try the case in Manhattan, and bipartisan congressional opposition to a civilian trial for KSM anywhere else, has Democrats inside and outside the Administration wondering about the Attorney General's standing in the White House.

WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration has not ruled out a military trial for the professed mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks, especially since Congress may prohibit the funds for a civilian trial, Vice President Biden said Sunday.

Biden, in defending the Obama administration from critics of its approach to prosecuting accused terrorists, said it is not yet clear where Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other Sept. 11 suspects held at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will be tried.

He said part of the reason for that is the political winds have changed since New York City Mayor Michael Blomberg changed his mind and Republican Scott Brown was elected to the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts.

'The political circumstances changed. The mayor came along and said the cost for providing security to hold this trial is X-hundreds of millions of dollars which I think is much more than would be needed. And the elected officials, Democrat and Republican said we don't want this tried here in New York. That creates a political dimension in the sense that the Congress can control the cost and the purse strings of how much money we have to try this case,' Biden said.

22. I take issue with one of those elements: Dems in congress
Edited on Fri Mar-05-10 03:34 PM by angelicwoman
You say that Dems in congress are against it. But that's highly misleading. why didn't you say that some are against it? If only 20% of the public were against it, would you also say that "the public is against it" only because some are against it?

I believe that you wanted to create the impression that most Democrats are against it.

If you knew that only a few Democrats are against Federal court trial, do you think it would be fair to represent it as "Dems in congress"?

26. You didn't say "the whole public" either, but it was obvious you meant a majority in the public
Edited on Fri Mar-05-10 03:48 PM by angelicwoman
So let's see. When you said "the public" you meant that a majority of it supports military tribunals; but when you said, "Dems in congress" you didn't mean the majority? That's an inconsistency.

I suggest that next time you say "A few Democrats." People might believe that Democrats prefer military tribunals for the most part.

I would certainly not say that "Democrats in the House are against health reform" because only a few are against it. If I did that, I would be misleading.

21. LOL. Do you want Obama to pay for a civilian trial himself? You think he alone has the
authority to decide where to hold the trial? He clearly WANTS it in civilian trial, but if those who were going to "sponsor" it changed their minds, he can't do anything about it.

Or are you simply endorsing what you believe Obama will endorse?

Another question. Had Obama announced that he would still seek Federal court trials, would you have criticized him?

They make me puke. What a punch of cowardly babies.

I guess KSM will join the 3 other terrorists tried by Military Tribunals and, if he's lucky, they'll send him back to his home country like they did with 2 of the 3 who were convicted. Cuz that's how to keep our country secure.

:puke:

Edited to add: Michael Bloomberg is a disgrace. Who knew NYers were such wimps?

33. Gee I was hoping to see
The "Evidence" in a court room. Like how do the "terrorist" get the Pentagon to sit on their ass while we're being attacked. Or how terrible pilots were able to fly planes into buildings without any help from the ground. Or how fire was able to take down 3 concrete and steel buildings at 10 stories a second. That day was full of mysteries that are unsolved and need answers like yesterday.

Maybe this is why they want to do it in private. Because they have no "Evidence". Or maybe because they were tortured, and any defense attorney would ride that for ALL it's worth. As they should.
