Sens. McConnell and Hatch try to distance themselves from RNC ad, but make excuses

GOPers distance themselves from questionable RNC ad

By Tony Romm

Mitch McConnell (Ky.) said he could not "imagine why anybody would have thought" that fundraising strategy would help his party.

<...>

A handful of Republicans have found themselves in the politically unsavory position this week of disavowing the tactics of their own party's campaign committee.

The pitch, authored by RNC Finance Director Rob Bickhart and delivered at a donor conference in Florida this week, called on Republicans to paint both Democrats and the White House as "The Evil Empire."

<...>

Among those critics this weekend was Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), who said the entire presentation "shouldn't have happened" in the first place.

"There's no excuse for that type of stuff, I just don't agree with that type of thing," Hatch told NBC's "Meet the Press," later defending RNC Chairman Michael Steele, who Hatch said may not have known about the pitch.

1. All I can say to those two guys
is Tough Shit. There is an old saying, "You made your bed, now lie in it" which applies here. McConnell and Hatch have been republican toadies for many years. So screw 'em.

3. What utter hog wash - these ad techniques embrace republican party values.
They condone it, they like it, and they use it.

4. but they're going to keep following that strategy
and it will be easy for everyone to see it, especially if the dems keep pointing it out.

But they have no choice, they would lose if they only stuck to substance.

Typical Republicans when called on their behavior.

They act like snotty little kids, all of them.

7. Fear and insults are their bread and butter.
The RNC has always been about name calling, fear tactics, insults, and comparing people to cartoon characters. Who wants to bet that McConnell, Hatch, and Steele were all in on the meetings that set the agenda? What I want to know is who was REALLY there?
