Matt Yglesias: How Many Divisions Has Jane Hamsher?

How Many Divisions Has Jane Hamsher?

I agree with most of what Jon Chait says here, but I did want to object to his picking up of a habit that I’m seeing in too many places, namely looking at FireDogLake and then making broad assertions about “the left.” Chait asks, for example, “One of many considerations the vulnerable Democratic moderates who hold reform’s fate in their hands must balance is, in return for the limitless rage of the right, will they get any credit from the left for backing this reform?” And he answers with a link to FDL.

But MoveOn.org is mounting a final push for health reform. Large labor unions like SEIU and AFSCME are pushing for reform. The NAACP wants health care to pass and so does LULAC. The liberal columnists for The New York Times favor the bill, and so do the liberal columnists for The Washington Post.

I wish that FDL agreed with me and Chait and Paul Krugman and the SEIU and the NAACP about health care rather than taking its counterproductive dead-ender stance. But the fact of the matter is that on this issue they represent a rather marginal point of view and I don’t see any real evidence that there’s major support for their view.

14. Me neither.
But it doesn't stop many here from basically saying that the Left=Hamsher. Or calling fellow DUers silly names like regressives. But if it makes them feel better....

16. Hasn't she always been for the last few months.
I called her looney when I saw the article calling for Rahm to be fired.

9. Matthew Yglesias works for John Podesta, health reform bill advocate
Edited on Mon Mar-08-10 07:58 PM by angelicwoman
Yglesias understandably endorsed the Senate bill and any non-public-option bill

His boss is Johh Podesta, Obama's close ally who owns Thinkprogress (CEO of the Center for American Progress)

17. So it's a conspiracy theory...ahhh...
I don't really care. I work for no one but a family in Paris and I support all the bills that push for healthcare reform. So I don't get your point.

10. Making Hamsher the scapegoat for sell outs and failures ignores the fundamental problem
Pander to the right while alienating your base and ignoring your mandate- and your party will lose. Badly.

These Republicrats who Chait calls "moderates" have done and will continue to do more damage to the party's chances than millions of teabaggers or the entire host of Republican ideologues.

They- along with the administration, have associated themselves and the party with - and have protected some of the most "popular" corporate interests in the country over the past year, looking meek, timid and corrupt in the process.

Now that the chickens are coming home to roost, the leadership- and their opinion leaders are beginning to run around scared. As they should be.
