Rather Uses “Obama,” “Articulate” And “Watermelons” In Same Anecdote
Dan Rather, longtime anchor at the CBS Evening News and now of HD Net, has been known for his analogies and anecdotes (Ratherisms).

But Newsbusters has caught one that seems to have gone way off the rails during an appearance on the Chris Matthews Show Sunday – involving Pres. Obama and “watermelons.”
In an argument about the 2012 election, Rather was describing what he thinks “Republicans” will say – and what “a lot of independents will buy.” So he’s speaking as Obama’s critics:

The Republicans will make a case and a lot of independents will buy this argument. “Listen he just hasn’t been, look at the health care bill. It was his number one priority. It took him forever to get it through and he had to compromise it to death.” And a version of, “Listen he’s a nice person, he’s very articulate,” this is what’s been used against him, “but he couldn’t sell watermelons if it, you gave him the state troopers to flag down the traffic.”

1. He has the freedom to let the truth hurt
whether you agree or not. As no one can deny that not having the fear of losing one's career is something that unshackles the mind to put the mouth in motion in ways one would otherwise be afraid to do.

I like Obama, but he better get his head out of his you know what and put some fire in his damn belly, and do it soon.

We need John Kennedy, not Sheriff Andy Taylor of Mayberry, North Carolina.

9. Not quite as bad as Byrd's using "white" and the "n" word together
But we've come a long way since then.

2. It's not as offensive as it is just plain stupid
Dan Rather stopped being relevant for me when he went on David Letterman after 9/11 and, with tears in his eyes, pledged his undying support for bush.

And he pulled his punches on the bush National Guard story when the heat got put on him.

Why he has any credibility at all anymore is way beyond me.

And jeezus, those stoopid fucking down home metaphors. They weren't funny 30 years ago.

5. Remember Dan Used to Say "Courage"
at the end of his broadcast?

He's always been a tad different in expressing himself, but I don't think he meant any harm - or any sense in this case.

6. What's weird about that though?! It's a common expression to say in France.
I think I'm more confused what he means in his statement. It just doesn't make any sense. Sell watermelons and whatever at the end. It's all over the place.
