OK, seriously, Dennis Kucinich. Enough's enough.

by Benintn

Just got this update via Twitter from Matt Yglesias:

Horrible. RT @brianbeutler Kucinich confirms he's willing to be the deciding vote "against" #hcr http://tpm.ly/cVcH0H

Really? Really, Dennis Kucinich?

You're willing to be the deciding vote against healthcare reform?

Come on, people. Enough's enough.

<...>

Now, look, Dennis Kucinich. I am a single payer advocate. I fought for it. I think we need to fundamentally change our system so that it puts patients ahead of profits. I do not believe that any value is added to our healthcare system by having insurance companies that exist to make a profit.

However, I'm also a pragmatist and I recognize that each day we wait, the system gets worse.

And so, I am willing to support an incremental approach if it means that 31 million more Americans get health insurance. I'm willing to support an approach that will cut $500 billion of wasteful spending from our Medicare system. I'm willing to do what it takes to make sure that competition works for consumers, not corporations.

The time for games is over. If you vote against health care reform, I will support your opponent.

He saved Cleveland from the disaster the "business community" created to line their own pockets at the expense of everybody else.

Oh, and then they sent him to DC.

10. No, Dennis is aware that the Senate bill is an atrocious give-away. I makes no difference ...
if you QUALIFY for health insurance if you can't afford the premiums. If there's no ROBUST public option, there's no cost control.

Dennis has the courage of his convictions. Bless him! :-)

The same applies for Health Care Reform now.

33. Here, more information that you'll surely not like
This was Conyers advocating single payer in May 2008:

Equally disturbing, the Institute of Medicine reports that 20,000 Americans die each year as a direct result of having no health insurance. How can we, in the Congress, who receive fairly decent health care, tell 47 million uninsured Americans that they cannot have access to health care?

With the knowledge that 20,000 Americans die each year without health insurance, how can we, in Congress, who do have health insurance, not place universal health care as a front burner issue in this chamber?

link

Good question. Don't Americans deserve "fairly decent health care"?

69. He is the only remaining "no" vote on the left.
It makes complete sense that the left blogospere, where most now want HCR passed, would put pressure on the single person we could have the most impact on.

That said, wouldn't it be good if people here, especially those from his district or those who contributed either time or money to him, appealed to him to consider that the bill is better than the status quo - and that is the real choice. Any fiction that the Congress, having to fail this would suddenly work on his bill and pass it - and, for good measure call on Kucinich to run in the 2012 primary are fantasy.

How sad it will be that a man, who wanted Medicare for all could be the vote that stops any comprehensive HRC. Not to mention, it would be the most significant thing in his entire career - as he had little impact with any of his other stands, bills or votes. Nice legacy there.

73. No Sense at all....
Dennis Kucinich has been consistently correct in his policy positions on health care reform. It is tiresome to see him attacked constantly here.

It is incredible how many people on this board are willing to accept a reinforcement of the insurance industry's role as middleman as actual health care reform. It is no wonder the Democratic Party is continually painted as weak by the Republican Party - starting with the White House, there has been a leadership vacuum for the last year.

Everyone should take a look at Representative Kucinich - this is what leadership looks like.

Lastly, it should be clear now why NBC/ MSNBC (at the last minute and after an invitation had been extended) decided not to let Rep. Kucinich participate in the Democratic presidential debate in New Mexico prior to the last election. The other candidates (including President Obama) would have been handed their respective hats.

75. Cuts for Medicare? No thanks
I'm willing to support an approach that will cut $500 billion of wasteful spending from our Medicare system.

I have Medicare via SSDI. I would like to keep Windsor Medicare Extra free of charge that includes prepscription drug plan, vision, basic dental and several other extras. I will lose this.
