HCR bill not enough reform to get the support of U.S. Rep. Michael Arcuri (NY-24)
I just heard U.S. Rep. Michael Arcuri (NY-24) on www.wamc.org . He feels that this bill is too much of a giveaway and does not offer enough support to get people access to medical treatment.
Arcuri feels that if the bill passes, it will eventually prove that we need a single payer system. He thinks that we should pass pieces of the bill (get rid of pre-existing conditions, fund community health centers) now and fight for single payer later.

I've already called to ask him to vote no. I begged him to vote for the house version and now I'm very glad he is going to vote no to the corporate mandate theft act.

On the wrong side of common sense ... and history. Pass pieces means get nothing done and he knows it.

I hope Arcuri gets primaried and kicked to the curb if he carries out this stupidity.

and let him know he's fooling no one. He's scared of losing his cushy benefits when he runs again in this right leaning district against the big bad repubs who had ads about him the last time accusing him of "doing what his democratic bosses in DC told him to do":silly:.

It was close..they had to count the absentees and didn't know the outcome for a few weeks after the election.

7. The bill sux but seeing as how Blue Dogs and Repbs are against it -- I am leaning
Edited on Tue Mar-09-10 02:28 PM by denimgirly
to reluctantly see it pass...even if i hate the bill. but i hate Blue Dog corporate democrats and republicans more. Ironically, it seems to me Obama is more a corporate democrat than a true left supporter.

11. It is a crappy bill, but it is our crappy bill
I think it sucks, yet I support Obama fully, so I support passing this bill. If we could do better, I think Obama would try to do better. This is as good as the corporations will allow.

17. why would we want to institutionalize it?
which is what this bill would do...mandate purchase of private for-profit insurance.

16. Primary opponents are popular these days
Edited on Tue Mar-09-10 10:37 PM by AllentownJake
Too bad a lot of people weren't all fired up about primaries when the public option was strangled to death by Rahm with the assist of Joe Lieberman, Bayh, and Lincoln.

It was about to die before than, when Rahm's recruits from 2006 and 2008 beat it down to nothing with bats, but the Senate killed it.
