9. The 11-page proposal presented before the big summit the other week
Alas, people rail against and for this, but they really don't seem to know much about it.

To catch up, read here. This summarizes the changes requested that could be part of the reconciliation fixes:

10. That's the $64 question, isn't it?
Considering their track record, probably more corporatist crap.

2. Hmm..too close to call.
Edited on Tue Mar-09-10 02:17 PM by denimgirly
I can see the appeal on one side of Doing Nothing which maintains status quo but kills more people and i also can see the appeal on the other side of Bigger Profits and higher rates but more lives saved AND ironically killed. Too close to call.

14. "A better bill"

Good luck with that, because the best we're going to get now is the current bill or another 6+ years of Republican rule.

15. Because those or your ONLY two choices.
Have you not been paying attention for the last year?

It's either one or the other. The best we could hope for now is Reid adding the PO to the Senate bill; and the odds on that are pretty low.

So 83% of MoveOn people support the Senate Bill with 'fixes'

74% of GDP supports the Senate Bill with 'fixes'

45% of GD supports the Senate Bill with 'fixes'

I think it's obvious where the disconnect is.

this is not popular with a lot of people where I live and is going to result in us getting our asses handed to us in november, worse than in '94.

26. He may be laughing his ass off, but he'll throw a damn party if we pass no HCR after
a year of focus and a Democrat in the White House and substantial majorities in the House and Senate. If HCR fails voters won't thank the Democrats for wasting a year on nothing, but reward the republicans for their "valiant fight" against it.

The insurance corporations ARE the problem. They are not now, nor will they ever be, a valid solution.

34. I hate Starfucks because they DON'T make good coffee
I also hate them because they have expanded their chain using the WalMart business model, and because Howard Schultz destroyed the Seattle Supersonics and eventually sold them to some right wing pieces of shit in Oklahoma who funded the Swift Boat Liars.

But what does any of that have to do with the Insurance Corporate Welfare act of 2010?

35. Because some businesses succeed.
And it isn't necessarily on the back of the proles.

Yup, Starbucks is aggressive, but it also unionizes its workers, provides them with health insurance, and a functional starting salary. I've never met a worker that was unhappy there.

Don't blanket all insurance companies as irresponsible. Many are, some are not, and people have the right to make informed decisions.

I'm happy with my insurance - its private and it treats me well. Heck, AETNA even covered elective Rx! I paid $5 when I was a college instructor.

Hating capitalism because it produces innovation is so... cultural revolution.

39. Bill with the changes ...
Once you get the foundation in place ... we can start to work on a wide variety of additional aspects that folks call for, medicare age changes, etc ... those get easier to do with the foundation in place.

40. Obama is opposed to single payer, and he doesn't want public option
House and Senate leaders will not allow any amendments to the reconciliation bill when it is unveiled. They are under orders from White House to make sure there is no public option on the bill.

Obama bargained the public option away last summer.
