If the PO would prove the government 'can't do anything right', why aren't the Repubs promoting it?

I know this is an old argument, but why aren't the Democrats exploiting this line of thinking?

If the government is truly incapable of competing with private industry, why wouldn't the Republicans want the Democrats to get their 'Public Option' so that they can put the final nail in the coffin of a publicly run medical system? The obvious response from a thinking person is "they're afraid that it will work as good as Medicare does and thus will put out of business their beloved insurance companies who give them so much money." Oh, and it just might put the Republican party out of business. The bullshit follow on that 'they would take over the industry and then start cutting coverage' is a pile of crap argument that the Medicare example quickly dispenses of. I say no mercy - ram this shit down their throats from now 'till election day.

One insurance company (auto) has even coined a phrase for this line of attack - "It's so easy a caveman could do it".

1. They prefer to prove it themselves when they're in power.
That's been true of the last 3 GOP presidents.

3. Along the same lines, if they think voters are so against it, why not just let it happen?
And then let the voters sweep them into office. I mean, they seem REALLY sure about it...
