If you sit out 2010, the Democratic Party will be run by those who bother to show up |
|
This is a short and sweet version of my "Get Off Your Ass" rant, but I'm afraid it's all too true.
If you're happy with what Obama and the Dems on Capitol Hill have done so far, participate.
If you're dissatisfied or disappointed, participate.
If you don't speak up, someone else will speak up for you.
That is all...

I have a great Congressman who stands with me on nearly every single issue. Bob Brady isn't going anywhere until he wants to. The Senatorial primary here is going to be especially interesting with Sestak vs. Specter so I won't be missing that either.

6. After all the work we did during the ABB 2004 coalition |
|
the 2006 midterms, and the 2008 Presidential elections, we have nothing to show for it other than an entirely corrupt Congress and a President that has done a 180 on his campaign promises on core issue. No jobs, foreclosures continue unabated, DOMA, DADT, no ENDA, and an escalation of the wars.
The DLC helped create this "FRAK YOU" Congress, that will do anything for corporations while shitting on the working class. Let the DLC be the ones that go out knocking doors and calling people. I am done with that until someone runs that will represent my class interests, and not those of my banker or health insurance company.

By voting AND participating in the party machine itself, you and millions of others make it harder for the DLC to keep the party from escaping their talons.

I think that's a distinction worth noting to any voter in any election cycle. We all have a role in this, obviously.

I will be working to get my Congressman reelected (Carson), but if Brad Ellsworth ends up getting anointed as the Democratic nominee to replace Evan Bayh, I won't vote for him or in anyway help his campaign. Ellsworth is 100-percent against women having reproductive choices and LGBT rights. He even voted against hate crimes legislation to be extended to LGBTs.
That's what I mean. Support and vote for those that support our class interests, and ignore and do nothing for those that don't.

It's in my blood. I supported and advocated for my Senators and am quite happy with them. Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar. I wish we could shake the Repukes we keep ending up with in Congress though.
We need about 60 more like them. And 200 more like Alan Grayson. I wish we have somebody like him here. I can just adopt Keith Elison because I work in his district.

Progressive that are dissatisfied are extremely active, in the end they will be there, as will the other active people on this site. It will be the ones who have tuned things out that will have to be energized.

Texas is facing redistricting again. After what Tom DeLay put us through in 2003, we must have a huge Democratic turnout on the state level, otherwise the Republicans will still have a chance to stack the deck in their favor and ensure bad legislation for our state for a decade to come.

Just take a look at where the republicans want to take us if they get back in power - more tax cuts for the rich, fewer regulations on wall street, main street, and the environment, and lets not forget bomb bomb Iran. Its frightening.

I'm gonna tough it out in 2010 as much as I can. Perserverance is the only way to effect real change at this point.

I do think it was a mistake for Obama to bring in a lot of Bill Clinton retreads into his administration, including Rahm Emanuel. IMHO, that's part of the problem - we need some fresh ideas to tackle the problems our nation is facing today.

I'll most likely vote on local issues because I'll be damned if I'll support a "corporate enabling" anything in the Congress.

I'm SO ANGRY at the SYSTEM, man!
I'm just gonna pout and sit on my ass and declare it broken and do absolutely nothing to help fix it!
That way, I can claim on internet message boards that the government doesn't represent my interests!
