Is it safe to say that we won't know the full impact of the HC bill until 2020 or so? |
|
I am talking about the impact on individuals' life...costs, benefits, affordability, hospitals, doctors, insurance companies...etc.

Many of the provisions (especially regulations on industry) take effect immediately. So people will know the impact soon after POTUS signs it into law.

3. I'll be watching for Insurance execs & lobbyists' bonuses this year |

and the number of pols, their spouses and aids getting cushy jobs in the 'private' sector in the next 18 months
Curious, what sorta bonus is Mrs. Lieberman gonna get this year. We should have a DU pool on that one.

And I agree with the OP. A lot of this is theory, and there are counter-arguments for each point. We have no idea what the private market impact will be of mandated commercial activity and regulated loss ratios. The demand curve is most certainly going to be augmented with subsidized, compulsory insurance. "Affordability" could slip right through everyone's fingers with this "uniquely American" model (and with it, access to actual care)

People are really bad at reading today.
There is no way to know what the full private market impact will be whatsoever, or even what the political impact will be in response to that. Pair the market impact with low actuarial plans, and you could end up with a lot of huffing and puffing and no real progress.
