My Reconciliation Confusion......
.... I'm throwing this out there in case someone has an answer (because I cant find it myself.) Links would be nice if you have them.

Ok, so what we're looking at is a projected vote by the House on the Senate bill next weekend.

The markup (when the House budget committee considers the reconciliation "fix") is scheduled for 3pm Monday.

I was under the impression that there was SOME point when the reconciliation packaged would be debated on the SENATE floor giving Bernie his chance to offer his PO amendment (shutter!) and for the GOP to try and filibuster "I object! I object! I object! I object" and offering their own BS amendments.

There cant possibly be time for that (30 hours of debate per amendment in reconciliation) by 3pm Monday.

Does the fix go BACK to Senate for consideration after the House finance committee has done the markup?

And does the President have to SIGN the reconciliation part (I realize he has to sign the MAIN bill.)

Will there be more to do after the hypothetical Saturday House vote? Does anything go back to the Senate? The press keeps talking as if the procedure is done once the House passes the Senate bill but doesn't the Senate then after to START the reconciliation process? Or is the presumption that the Senate would be doing the recon. process in the time from 3pm Monday until the House vote Saturday, get that passed so that when the House passes the Senate bill on Saturday, the recon. package will take effect?

Anyone who can explain this will become the object of my undying love and affection. :)

1. I think the House will try to vote on both the Senate bill and

reconciliation bill on the same day (according to Jonathan Cohn at TNR)
The Reconciliation passed by the House will then go to the Senate. That is where they'll run into obstacles from the GOP in the form of countless amendments.

My understanding is the Senate must pass the very same reconciliation measures as the House. They're not allowed to add or subtract a PO for instance. Thus Durbin's later statement on Pelosi and the PO. And, Pelosi's statement on the PO.

I have found a lot of conflicting info on the signing requirements. I'm not sure what they actually are.

... but there's one thing I hope they DONT do, PLEASE dont let them call Louise Slaughter's provision "the Slaughter rule." I realize that things like this are often named for the legislator who came up with the idea, but is it not OBVIOUS that using something called "The Slaughter Rule" to pass HCR will NOT play well politically.

For crying out loud, look at what the GOP has done with "nuclear option."

Plus the "Slaughter rule" could be further conflated with "death panel" by the ever vigilant, paranoid tea-bagger.

6. This hurts my head. I was trying to explain it to another poster in a different thread and
it is convoluted and confusing. But I believe it will get done.
