Poll question: Does Jesus warning about serving two masters apply to Congress?

The Democrats' scam becomes more transparent
By Glenn Greenwald

(Updated below - Update II (Saturday)

The one last hope for Senate Democratic leaders was to avoid a vote altogether on the public option, thereby relieving Senators of having to take a position and being exposed. But that trick would require the cooperation of all Senators -- any one Senator can introduce a public option amendment during the reconciliation and force a vote -- and it now seems that Bernie Sanders, to his great credit, is refusing to go along with the Democrats' sham and will do exactly that: ignore the wishes of the Senate leadership and force a roll call vote on the public option.

Before Joe Lieberman decided to change his mind, Harry Reid had 60-votes in the Senate on a health care compromise which included a Medicare buy-in for Americans over the age of 50. Lieberman reversed course when he realized that such a plan, if enacted into law, would have whetted the public appetite for expanding the Medicare buy-in to all Americans. Single Payer for all!

If we had 59 votes for a form of the Medicare buy-in after Lieberman's defection, why are our Democratic leaders telling us now that they don't have the votes in the Senate for a public option?

A vast majority of Americans support a Medicare buy-in or some other public option but we shouldn't be surprised that the folks in Congress chose to protect the interests of the investor class over those of the working class. One does not have to ba a Christian to appreciate Jesus words about a man serving two masters:

"No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."

Luke 16:10-13

We cannot have a Congress, or a Democratic Party, which serves both the working class and the capitalist. The way the DLC despises the liberal wing of the Democratic Party, and the way the MSM hates progressives, are manifestations of Jesus two masters dictum.

The question for DUers is: does Jesus warning about serving two masters apply to Congress?

4. perhaps you are not aware of Jesus words about wolves in sheep's clothing
which also applies to those that claim they support the public option, while doing everything to prevent it from becoming a reality:

The phrase was originated by Jesus and is recorded the Gospel of Matthew (7:15-16). Jesus said, "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them." (New International Version)

The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing is one of the fables of Aesop.

One does not have to be a Christian to appreciate what the Jewish patriot and martyr Jesus had to say before he was executed by the Roman occupiers.

9. Jesus was warning us about the DLC
who bear a strong resemblance to the Pharisees of His time.

3. The difficulty of doing both has not changed since the time of Jesus
Sadly, the philosophy of the golden rule always seems to have the upper hand.

5. The Beltway Bible does not include Luke's writings
he gets really liberal in Acts, so he's out. The Beltway Bible is easy to learn! It goes like this: "God created the world, God hates gays, Jesus loves the little children, the end is neigh." the end. That's the whole thing. All the stuff about sharing, and especially the teachings that might apply to anyone other than gay people, are removed, as they are difficult and demanding, as well as critical of the notion that profit is divine.
Glen is using the old fashioned, 'whole' Bible. A book long discredited for being far too lefty and frankly, hippy dippy socialist.

7. During the New Deal we had a Congress that at least addressed the concerns of the working class
and ever since, we have had an endless propaganda stream belittling the significant accomplishments of the New Deal and demonizing its programs. The DLC has bought into this rightwing spin.

8. I meant when and where as in "when and where that someone less than 80 would remember."

10. No wonder Conservatives control the content of our school textbooks
so that those under 80 are taught that Reagan was a god and the New Deal was evil incarnate.
