SEIU Keeps Up Pressure On Wavering House Dem With Brutal Ad
SEIU Keeps Up Pressure On Wavering House Dem With Brutal Ad

As I first reported here, SEIU is threatening to withold support from House Dems who may vote against the health care bill, informing them that a No vote could mean they face a labor-backed challenge from the left.

Now the SEIU is seriously cranking up the heat on one of these Dems, New York Rep Mike McMahon, with a brutal full-page ad set to run tomorrow in the large-circulation Staten Island Advance. It depicts a child in intensive care and calls on McMahon to vote for health reform, lest families go without the “lifesaving medical care they need”:

“Congressman McMahon has indicated to us that he intends to vote no on the healthcare reform bill,” the ad says. “We strongly urge Congressman McMahon to reconsider his vote.”

This sort of pressure is no small thing, because it’s a clear signal that if he votes No, he’ll likely face the wrath of labor in the form of a primary or third-party challenger.

It’s worth reiterating that this threat is deadly serious: Because of the powerhouse Working Families Party in New York, a labor-backed third party challenge could end McMahon’s career. View the full ad here.

1. Would be great if they put that much effort behind something worthwhile, like a public option

Why not target the dems in the senate that don't support a public option through reconciliation?

2. I think these "No" Democrats already got their brown envelope stuffed with cash from the RNC
or from lobbysists and they can't vote "yes" because there are strings attached.

3. Wonder if they saw the fight
coming from the Dem activists on this?
