Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Lt. Dan Choi and Kathy Griffin decide to storm the White House.
Edited on Thu Mar-18-10 12:07 PM by Clio the Leo
There's a DADT rally at Freedom Plaza and Lt. Dan Choi (yall remember Dan) ...

... has decided to try and storm the White House in an effort to get arrested to bring attention to the issue. And, Kathy Griffin is gong too.

I'm now at Freedom Plaza--bout half way btw the Capitol and WH. D-lists Kathy Griffin is now taking stage for #dadt rally

Ok, i just got handed a flier by someone who said follow Dan Choi to the WH post rally to get arrested...

Flier reads, this week BFrank confirmed that the WH has been "ambiguous" about repealing #dadt this year....

. Over the last year, HRC has assured us numerous times that they have seen a solid plan from the WH. When will we see the results?

Follow this rally I will be leading to the WH to say "enough talk".

This does not sound like it was part of the HRC script...

Ok, choi now taking stage... he tells kathy, you're great at telling jokes. but #dadt is not a joke.

Choi is in full uniform: i am still standing, i am still fighting, i am still speaking out, and i am still gay

Choi: toady i'm here on a mission... we're calling it an action. I am not asking anymore. I am telling. Will you tell with me?

Chio: you've been told that the WH has a plan.. but we learned this week that the president is still not fully committed... to repealing #dadt this yr

Choi: our fight is not here, it ls at the WH.... i am going to the WH right now.

Choi: Kathy, will you go with me? Kathy: of course! Joe Solmonese will you with me? Eric Alva, will you go with me?

Choi is clearly getting ready to march to the WH and he essentially asked Joe Solmonese to go with him. Again, I think this was unplanned.

Kathy ends with text from Cher: "...Stand strong you crazy bitch. fight hard, that's why I love you. Cher"

Hope someone gets pics.

Dan bringing attention to DADT and all of it's ridiculousness is something I can stand behind though I think Obama is doing what he can regarding getting DADT through Congress. Some of the military is on board, some are not. I think with Lieberman (the scum that he is) wanting to even work to pass it, it will eventually pass. I hope.

20. Wow. Are you sure? You know who is in the Whitehouse don't you?
Chaining yourself to the Whitehouse is kind of making a statement against that particular administration's policy. So glad it meets with your approval, though. :eyes:

Tch, that'll smart.

Lt. Choi is calling this President out. About time someone from our community did.

Our bought and paid for advocates are hiding while Choi is leading.

Take note, Mr. President.

There is another group of protesters at Pelosi's office demanding she move on the ENDA bill. Not sure if this is the same group or not.

24. Story with pics from the Advocate.

Kathy Griffin, who was in Washington at the behest of HRC to meet with members of Congress about DADT repeal, was also at the rally. When asked by Choi if she would march with him to the White House, Griffin responded, "Of course!" Neither Griffin nor Solmonese was seen at the White House protest, however.

The HRC has released the following statement on the rally: “Today more than 1,000 people showed up at a rally — 500 of which signed up to become more involved in the fight to repeal ‘don’t ask, don’t tell.’ Joe Solmonese along with Eric Alva and others felt it was important to stay and engage those at the rally in ways they can continue building the pressure needed for repeal. This does nothing to diminish the actions taken by Lt. Choi and others. This is the nature of social change and everyone has a role to play.”
