I'll be working tomorrow when the Insurance "Reform" bill passes.

Congrats to those who have steadfastly held to the notion that a "bad bill" is better than none at all. I'm actually heartened by the tenacity of my DU friends who think that it's a step forward.

Now I'd ask: WHEN do we start to work toward making it better, when there are so many OTHER things to accomplish such as repeal of DADT, DOMA, the renegotiation of NAFTA, withdrawl of EVERY boot on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan, not to mention JOBS, and the ECONOMY?

I'm fired up, and ready to go!

2. Somehow I think there will just be a lot of back patting and "go team" high fives

in GD: Presidency while corks pop at United Healthcare and Blue Cross/ Blue shield. Making it better? Some of us spent hour after hour calling and writing for the public option. Why would they listen to us NOW when they've gotten everything THEY wanted? As for the half of DU that cheers this bill; I hope that 24 hours after they are done patting themselves on the back they'll be on the phones DEMANDING that Grayson's bill be signed. I won't hold my breath, though.

3. Don't mistake my acceptance of what is going to be for what think should happen in the future.

I don't believe this bill will see substantive changes for a few election cycles or more.

I've been consistent in my opposition. Now the only option is to hope for change (pun intended).

7. Many more than those

that would have been willing to do something had the bill died. It's a decent base to build upon. And I am sure you know about the classical examples (Social Security, etc.). I have no idea when it's going to happen. Not right away, for sure. The focus should definitely switch next to other issues, and there is a long list of those (jobs, jobs, jobs, financial reform, etc., etc.)

I remember when we first saw all the candidates lining the stage for the first debate and my immediate thought was, given the unspeakable mess that they were facing (2 wars, the economy, etc.), who would want this job now?! x(

...an albatross that fails to deliver as expected almost as soon as it starts. :(

What's tragic is that it could have been so much different.
