Edited on Sun Mar-21-10 10:19 AM by aaaaaa5a
Stupak's vote isn't dead yet.

Excerpt...

Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) said this morning that he is close to striking a deal with the White House on abortion provisions, The Hill reports.

Said Stupak: "We are close to getting something done... We're close but we're not there yet."

2. If there IS a deal, it will only be an executive order confirming that the Hyde amendment will be

the law of the land re: this bill. Luke Russert reported that THAT'S what the deal would be, if they needed it.

3. Good point.

I am not sure how to read this. Are they talking to Stupak because they suddenly don't have the votes? Or is Stupak late in trying to jump on a train quickly leaving the station?

6. I heard (from Russert) that Dems. told him they DO have 216, but
getting Stupak and his 5 buddies would give them big cushion, looking like a "solid" win.

4. Meh...they don't need Stupak. He's playing to the camera cause he wants attention.
He went from 12 to 6. Obama, or better yet Pelosi knows she doesn't need him and said as much.

5. We don't want your vote if it requires some grandstanding 'deal' for you

7. Sounds more like Stupak is covering his own ass
Like it was due to him that the President signed this executive order. Sorry Bart, you had nothing to do with it. You are just looking for a reason to be able to vote for this bill, considering the high unemployment in Michigan.

8. He's clearly stated that his decision is tainted by his Catholic backgroud
This grandstanding is so very wrong on so very many levels, I hope his constituents remember this for some time to come. He will only vote for legislation that ensures others are forced to live a Catholic lifestyle.
