Edited on Sun Mar-21-10 01:41 PM by denimgirly
Am i missing something...why is the Public Option always, ALWAYS something dirty? Unless the details of an Executive Order forbid it i dont understand why the Public Option couldnt be one as well.

Sorry if this has been discussed before...I am just wondering.

6. "Logic"?
Congress controls all spending. A PO would require spending.

9. The logic comes from the very desperate need for a PO in this mess
That was the real point of the OP if Im not mistaken.

11. The point of OP was a question: Why can't we put in a PO through executive order.
A question that is pretty easily addressed.

13. The point was a need for a PO
The OP was just using the executive order as a means to getting it.

Of course, we both know that even if Obama could wave a wand and create a PO by executive order he wouldnt do it since he already cut back room deals that prevents him from supporting its passage.

14. Right. The point of the OP isn't what the OP actually says, but what you believe it says.

16. There is no logic in asserting that you can create a PO out of an executive order.
I called you on that. You then tried to change what the OP was about.

4. The President can not create a major new program - which a PO would be -
by an executive order. What Stupak may be given actually does very little.

As I just said to the other PO pusher (of which I am one): Personally, I'm fucking exhausted! Let's just do this thing today, take a nap, and return to the battle refreshed!

10. Executive orders are not permanent so I don't see how that
work for a public option.

Okay everyone, you've got a public option, but only for a little while.

12. Um, a president can't create a government program by fiat
An executive order is just the president directing the implementation of what's permitted under existing law.
