You know what's great? Democrats don't look like wimps today |
|
Look, I know these bills aren't perfect. But after a year of debate and after a near-meltdown in MA, the Dems in disarray narrative didn't become self-fulfilling. For the first time in decades, Democrats actually delivered on a major item of their agenda in the face of complete obstruction. They weren't spooked by fickle poll numbers. They didn't let themselves get distracted in the end by siren songs for bipartisanship from the Republicans. They actually got it done.
And while we had a few good election cycles, when it comes to legislating, we were awfully short on this for a long time.
And the good news is that victories build momentum. If we can pass this, we can pass a lot more. We can improve this. This is a beginning not an end.

3. People elect their leaders to lead. |
|
The only reason the Democrats seemed to be in trouble was because they weren't leading.
Hope that's changed now.

6. Hell, yes...I stood in the freezing snow on Saturday in suburban Chicago |
|
being shouted down by flag-waving, bull-horn shouting knuckle draggers...and though I doubt this "last ditch" effort had much impact on my congresswoman (she was undecided, but then voted yes)..I feel glad and proud that I fought those morons!..Even more so when I later read how they "dropped the mask" in DC, not only by shouting racist, sexist and homophobic epithets..but having the absolute GALL to SPIT on a Congressman!
He may be a better person than I for not pressing charges...I would have..Those fuckers should have had the book thown at them.
These same idiots will no doubt reap the benefits of the HCR..Maybe, just MAYBE, they'll then turn around to see the error of their moronic ways.

since I learned something today about an aspect of the bill which was particularly troubling to me and others...Even though abolishing "pre-existing condition" clauses for adults doesn't take place til 2014...There WILL be a pool to which those with pre-existing conditions can GO and get healtchare...In addition to that, we'll have the Community Health Care Center system that our wonderful Bernie Sanders initiated.
Yes, we know it's not perfect, and most of us fought hard for the public option, even as a second choice to Single Payer...But I believe this is a first shot..and that we will get there.
I also have renewed affection and loyalty to our Prez because even though I got angry with him MANY times -- even dropping my OFA account, I now believe that he DID fight hard for whatever he could get...For those who doubt this, I believe you need only look at how HARD the Right Wing fought even this!
Now, please don't send flames my way..Obama could use some improvement, (the two wars, for instance)..But let's face it...We're doing a HELL of a lot better than we would under ANY Republican...as Ed Schultz just said, "This isn't the end..At this point, we can start working hard to get BETTER Democrats elected".
This is a start.:7
