Obama pitching reform in Iowa
By CAROL E. LEE | 03/22/10 12:40 PM

President Obama has chosen to make a symbolic start in his effort to convince skeptical Americans to support his health care bill.

Obama will travel to Iowa City to make his first case to the public, the White House announced Monday.

“On Thursday, the President will return to Iowa City, Iowa to discuss how health insurance reform lower costs for small businesses and American families and give them more control over their health care," a White House official said. "President Obama first announced his health care plan in Iowa City in May 2007, launching a grassroots campaign for reform that led directly to the legislation passed this week.”

Using his Twitter account, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs wrote: "President will travel Thursday to the city where the grassroots campaign for health insurance reform started in May 2007 - Iowa City, Iowa."

Obama first unveiled his health care reform plan as a candidate in Iowa on May 29, 2007. It marked his first big policy rollout in the campaign.

Eventually, I'm going to have to face the sad reality that Barack Obama is not the snark-princess that I am. :(

1. Here you go - some photo's of Obama at his Waterloo:

Obama is very familiar with MOST cities in Iowa. After Hawaii and Illinois, he's ours. :)

I graduated from the University of Iowa so Iowa City is my old stomping ground. Luv Iowa City. :loveya:

3. Iowa is the Hawkeyes. It has had the best wrestling program in the country for decades.

Iowa State is the Cyclones. That sounds closer to hurricanes. Iowa State is in Ames. I will bite my U of I tongue and not make any disparaging comments about Iowa State. ;)

Then we have UNI - the ugly step-child of Iowa universities beating Kansas. We are very proud. Of course, I graduated from the law school at KU but whatever. I like underdogs. I'm acting like my bracket no longer exists ~ blissful ignorance.

8. He's doing this so that the Republicans don't have the chance of defining the health care bill.
It's a very intelligent move.
