California: Simon Backing Campbell For GOP Senate Nomination
The Los Angeles Times reports that the latecomer in California's race to choose a Republican Senate nominee, ex-Rep. Tom Campbell, will be getting some help speaking to the party's right flank.

Campbell, according to the report, will be endorsed today by a former GOP nominee for governor, conservative Bill Simon.

The significance: Simon opposes abortion. Campbell is an abortion-rights supporter.

"The endorsement seeks to buttress Campbell's campaign claims that Republican primary voters will overlook his moderate social leanings because of his fiscal credentials," writes The Times.
