Axelrod: Obama more excited by bill passing than being elected
Aide: Obama more excited by bill passing than being elected
Posted: March 22nd, 2010 08:11 PM ET

From CNN Associate Producer Martina Stewart

Washington (CNN) – The significance of Sunday night’s historic health care reform vote in the House was not lost on President Obama, according to one of his senior aides.

“I haven’t seen the president so happy about anything – other than his family – as long as I’ve known him and worked with him,” White House senior adviser David Axelrod said Monday on CNN’s The Situation Room. “Even Election Night, he was not as excited as he was last night.”

Asked again by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer about the president’s reaction, Axelrod reiterated the unprecedented nature of the moment for the president.

“I am here to bear witness, Wolf,” Axelrod said. “That is absolutely the case. He was excited that night but not the way he was last night. Last night, he had the feeling of satisfaction that we had actually helped so many people across this country and given the American people more security and more peace of mind, and that this is something that will benefit generations to come.”

On Tuesday, Obama is set to sign the 2000+ page Senate bill passed by the House, making that piece of legislation the law of the land and setting in motion an overhaul of the nation’s health care system.

Also on Tuesday, the Senate will take up a second bill of tweaks to the larger bill. The two bills taken together constitute the Democrats’ plans for health care reform. Senate Republicans have vowed to try to interpose a number of procedural obstacles in an attempt to frustrate passage of the second bill. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, said late last week that he has the 51 votes necessary to pass the second bill through a special budgetary procedure designed to avoid a Republican filibuster.

13. It isn't me that jumped the shark. I still believe in single payer or a Public Option.
I do NOT believe in either enriching the private insurance companies or doing anything to guarantee their existence.

39.  no according to some, I jumped the shark because I didn't "compromise
my values. I expect exactly the same things of Democratic elected officials that I have for over thirty years. Those who copmpromise those values and retreat from support of those liberal values are not going to get my support when they do so. I remain the same but some politicians jump the shark and I will not cave in to the demand that I approve of it.

8. He wanted to do this to help the People and the
country..When he was elected there was that long first year ahead and now a lot of accomplishments are in the record and we're turning the bushcheney disaster around.

President Obama has always wanted to get HRC started in his first year..more or less..No wonder he's so happy..pretty happy myself.:D

His accomplishments in just his first 14 months have been historic and almost unbelievable, especially working with nothing more than a majority of his own party, no help from the other party at ALL.

Today is my birthday and I couldn't have asked for a better gift than for the bill to pass last night and to see how happy Obama felt about it. :)

I'm 43 in case you were wondering. :hi:

24. It's interesting to see a president maintain cynical distance from the system,
while still offering the personal skill set to make the system work. I think he hates the pretense but loves the results.

32. Sure. Why not. He probably was promised millions from the bloated
pharma, hospital, and insurance companies when he is finally kicked out of office in 2012 for selling the American people down the river to these sectors.
