How bad is being political on Facebook right now?
I'm a pretty big Facebooker and several of my "friends" are wing-nuts. I haven't blocked or de-friended them yet but I see myself getting drawn into the same debates there as on every other damned site. Life is political.

5. Everything has a political element, at some level. Well, maybe not the parent/child relationship.
At first. With your acquaintances, be kind, be civil, move on. Just don't back them into a corner, they'll just get ugly and be recalcitrant.

45. My dad told me "Better dead than red" which always left me wondering just
how far left I would have to be to be better dead than.

And he was the warm loving parent in the relationship (not kidding either).

6. I can handle the politics, but if one more person posts about their darling child or adoring spouse.
I'm going to puke and block/de-friend them. Not necessarily in that order.

it's understandable that some people are gonna be angry--they're RW world is crashing around them as the socialists baby-snatchers with their death squads move in!

I've had to unfriend two or three (have a big mafia), hide a few relatives and just laugh at everyone else's comments. Love to see them squirm at the unknown.

17. Haven't been there that long, lucky so far.
About half of my 'friends' are liberals/progressives/Democrats; the other half are basically apolitical, but they're not seeing anything that is atypical for the way I've always lived. That said, there are a couple on the periphery who are starting to get a bit annoying with their doom and gloom, but they're significantly outnumbered.

21. I joined Facebook to post my businesses
But soon found I couldn't keep my mouth shut about politics, so I need to put up a real FB business page far away from my individual profile.

It's only the acquaintances who join batshit crazy groups like three of them joined today - 304,059,724 against Obama's Healthcare takeover and some other anti-Obama-anti-healthcare group. I usually hide the wingnuts at that point so I don't have to see that crap on my page. Today, though, I started ranting in the status line and when I was on character 1251, I discovered the status box won't hold more than 400 characters. Grrrr... So tonight my status line simply says, "Uninformed hysteria really pisses me off." I really don't care if those types un-friend me anyway :)

30. Not as bad as I thought it would be
I have a politics list to limit the people I bug with my views to those who care about politics. Not many conservatives on there other than the couple that I know I can argue with and keep things civil. I suspect my conservative friends limit publication of their wall posts and exclude me. I've gotten into it with one person on a friend's wall.

Could also be that they are in shock or deflated by their loss. Or maybe they are being careful about predicting doom now that this has actually passed because they know deep down what they have been saying is probably bullshit.

33. This is my current Facebook status:
HCR points for doubters #1 - Is it OK for people with pre-existing conditions to be unable to buy health insurance or get those conditions covered? #2 - Is it a good thing that without reforms, HealthCare costs are going to be 30% of GDP in a decade or two? #3 Democrats would have been happy to work with GOP on this, b...ut Republicans wanted to make political points by killing the bill instead of offering suggestions.

just got into an argument yesterday with MY BARTENDER lol. I was furious about the things people were saying after the bill passed, I mean crazy repubs....talking about end of the world, end of our country, etc, so I posted my own little rant as my status, and someone that works at the bar I go to on Fridays started ranting back at me, then somehow it turned personal into my being on unemployment with no job, blah blah it got out of hand and now we're still trying to make up. :eyes:
