Medicare got us part way there, anyway. It is a major cornerstone of the new law.

As for TR, I figured I'd clear up one misconception. He never proposed national healthcare while he was president. When he ran on the Progressive 'Bull Moose' ticket in 1912, he called for all workers to have healthcare coverage.

Not that he doesn't deserve mention, because that was a major proposal in its time.
