First Democrat emerges in 5th District race

Oklahoma - OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A longtime professor at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond says he'll run for the Democratic nomination for Oklahoma's 5th District congressional seat. Tom Guild says he will officially announce his candidacy for Congress during a news conference at the state Capitol on Thursday. The 55-year-old taught political science and legal studies at UCO for 27 years and for three years at Oklahoma City University. He currently serves as the secretary for the Oklahoma County Democratic Party. Guild is the first Democrat to announce for the 5th District seat being vacated by current Republican U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin. Fallin is running for governor. Six Republicans and an independent have announced for the congressional race.
