South Carolina: Club Endorses Scott
South Carolina state Rep. Tim Scott (R) got a boost Tuesday when the political action committee for the powerful anti-tax group Club for Growth announced that it will be endorsing him in the crowded race to replace retiring Rep. Henry Brown (R).

"Tim Scott has fought for the principles of individual liberty and limited government in South Carolina, and he is ready to do the same in Washington," Club President Chris Chocola said in a statement. "He has fought the same battles in Columbia that need to be fought in Congress: for less spending, lower taxes, and school choice."

The Club is backing Scott in the primary over some candidates with well-known names in South Carolina politics, such as Carroll Campbell III, the namesake son of a late former governor of South Carolina and Charleston County Councilman Paul Thurmond, the son of the legendary late Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.).

On the Democratic side are Robert Burton, a retired Air Force colonel; businessman Robert Dobbs; and Dick Withington, a retired accountant and former Navy officer.
