NBC nightly news is doing one hit piece after another tonight on HC Bill.
Edited on Tue Mar-23-10 05:47 PM by jezebel
First piece: piece where they give equal time to the signing ceremony and negative Republican talking points.

Second piece: Piece on Jim Demint and Republican efforts to repeal. Note that calls are 3 to 1 against HCR in his office and then comments from McCain(offer NO counterpoints with Democratic Senators or Congressman)

Third piece: Piece on lawsuits by 13 states. Very negative.

Fourth piece (and worst one of all): Piece showing two American families who are very unhappy. Allow one man to say this was done against what America wants without any differing counterpoints.

Just horrible.

1. The way to answer this shite is simple:
let the free market handle it -- STOP watching.

Let the ratings go into the toilet.

2. Not surprising

17. Unfortunately, that's not really the point
Edited on Tue Mar-23-10 06:44 PM by Proud Liberal Dem
They (along with the corporate mediawhores) don't need to actually be able to repeal it- like with abortion, gay rights, and other "wedge" issues, they just want to be able to RUN on it. They want to make people so upset about it that people will (theoretically) elect the Republicans to Congress in droves in 2010 (but not with enough numbers to override the inevitable veto) and back into the WH in 2012 on a pledge to repeal it. This little GOP/corporate mediawhore "fear and smear blitz" still may not be enough to tip the scales in their favor even in the upcoming midterm elections, particularly once more people begin to realize what's REALLY in the legislation and by 2012 the legislation will have been in effect for roughly 2 years during which people will KNOW what's in the legislation and that it's making their lives BETTER (and why would they want to go back to the way things were only yesterday???? The GOP/corporate mediawhores Axis can spin furiously but they can't block out reality entirely and when people start seeing the positive changes in their real lives (and if Democrats keep reminding people just what this legislation does for them NOW), their little fear and smear campaign will inevitably fizzle out. I mean there is still more than 8 months to go until November and I don't believe that the GOP/corporate mediawhores Axis will be able to sustain this level fear and hysteria over greater insurance coverage long enough to make it until November. I'm not sure how they will keep it going even for the next few weeks but, hey, there's no law saying that we have to prevent them from self-destructing- if they want to double down on "teh crazy". ;-)

16. GE Medical
It manufactures many of the gadgets that are used to run all those very expensive and very unnecessary tests. Most of the cost savings of healthcare reform target the use of pointless tests, for which GE makes a small fortune.

Went to Ed, and he has some Repuke on spouting the talking points.

Turned the TV off. Nice and peaceful now.

It seems like they are pushing the repub agenda.

Call Senator Barrasso

He stated hardly anyone is calling his office in support of the HRC Bill. I guess we are not doing our job. Let's make sure they hear from us in support of the bill.

8. They adore Drama...More conflict equals more ratings
The more they fake outrage the more it will hopefully make viewers angry and need to tune in to find out what happens next. If i was CEO i know i would do the same...its not right but as a corporation they want to make money.

It is up to the president (and apparently, only Weiner and Grayson) to now help sell the good things of this bill. Granted Weiner and Grayson are less interested in supporting this thing since they want more strong reform but i think they will do it to help other democrats.

not sure it will do much good, but I feel much better after writing them. My tendency is to rationalize and do nothing, which I believe is a weakness of dems in general.

11. Yeah, the 2 people Janet Shamblin asked about HCR were from the reddest state in the country
Oklahoma, (the only state Barack Obama didn't win one county)...And Janet Shamblin asked 2 people what they thought of HCR....Neither liked it, well what a suprise that is...

If she's going to ask people from the reddest state what they think of health care, then ask some people from a BLUE state what they think of HCR as well..

That was awful reporting....

13. Who cares what they think? The viewership for nightly news is less then it is for American Idol.
In this case, that makes me happy. Nightly news is dying like newspapers. No one wants a broad overview anymore. It is so biased and slow in its delivery that it is outdated.

25. You do know Brian has been a RUSH fan for years?
From the December 26, 2004, interview:

WILLIAMS: I do listen to Rush. I listen to it from a radio in my office, or depending on my day, if I'm in the car, I will listen to Rush. And he will tell you I've been listening for years. I think it's my duty to listen to Rush. I think Rush has actually yet to get the credit he is due, because his audience for so many years felt they were in the wilderness of this country. No one was talking to them.

<...>

Rush said to millions of Americans, you have a home. Come with me. For three hours a day you can listen and hear the like-minded calling in from across the country, and I'll read to you things perhaps you didn't see that are out there. I think Rush gave birth to the FOX News Channel. I think Rush helped to give birth to a movement. I think he played his part in the Contract with America. So I hope he gets his due as a broadcaster.

Before his promotion, Williams hosted several other NBC news programs, including The News with Brian Williams on MSNBC and CNBC, where Limbaugh was a frequent guest. On September 24, 2002, Williams introduced a News segment on a speech made by former Vice President Al Gore by observing: "ur friend Rush Limbaugh told his radio listeners he almost stayed home from work, not due to any health reasons, but because he was so livid at the speech given yesterday by former Vice President Al Gore criticizing the Bush administration's apparent march to war in Iraq." Williams asked, "Is it un-American to speak out against the Bush plan to take on Iraq? Is it democratic to ridicule and threaten those who do?"

21. Yes, I though there was no balance at all in their coverage tonight.
Even in defeat, they coddle the Republicans.
Now, they are running pieces on what is in the bill and the benefits. But, the negative coverage is extreme.
