Yes there are members who wanted more in the bill. But the general arc of HCR and the direction it is going in is very good for all of us.

You don't build trust and bring the party together by backstabbing constituencies.

What you're seeing is relief that this turd is out of the living room and the Dems can get onto other things besides this embarrassing self-flagellation.

That and bemusment at the watching Republicans go apoplectic.

Edited on Tue Mar-23-10 09:26 PM by MadMaddie
that the Repugs have fucked up and by unleashing their fringe they have no control over what happens now. The fringe are now making public death threats and threatening attacks against Democratic leaders and it is pulling us together too.

We all know that the violence is right around the corner and it's our job to make sure that those who incited the violence are held accountable in the courts.

25. i wouldn't exactly say unified but
you know, dems have been on the other side for a really long time.
We clawed through 8 years of BushCo and then got a good guy in office.
No matter what DUers feel about the bill, it feels good to watch the Repubs clawing.
We can all feel good about that. I think. :)

The posters in the GD forum have more of a different opinion. Hey, that is democracy. The other forum is less unified in in the overall opinions on health care.

39. I agree in some ways
a few factors have led to this.

(1) liberal talking heads, e.g., Ed Schultz, have stopped trashing the bill and have begun to commend the president and the Dems for what they were able to accomplish.

(2) the behavior of those on the right has galvanized the Dems. It's hard to be mad at the dems when you have righties calling dem members of Congress a "baby killer", the n-word, anti-gay slurs, anti-Hispanic slurs, spitting on them etc. Add to that the actual violence (brick incidents) and threats of violence and that will put the left's house in order pretty quick.

(3) The GOP is in panic mode and we all know it and LOVE it. Regardless of what's NOT in the bill, this was a huge loss for them. (Couldn't you tell when you saw Boner almost crying on the House floor?) Their goal was to cause all health reform to fail, and they were the ones who failed.

40. I think that in a country....
...where everyone wants instant gradification, a lot of democrats were expecting...wham, bam, it's done, regarding healthcare. But, now, we saw what a long hard fight it was and even though it isn't exactly what we wanted, the sense of accomplishment is greater and the victory is oh so SWEET!

You never need to be dissapointed, if you end up being right you can say "i told ya so" and if your wrong you can just wag your finger and say they got lucky. Its like a state of permanent retardation.
