Tea Party Could Hurt Republicans
:nopity:

Tea Party Could Hurt Republicans

A new Quinnipiac poll finds Republicans leading the generic congressional ballot, 44% to 39%, but if there is a Tea Party candidate on the ballot, the Democrat would get 36% to the Republican's 25%, with 15% for the Tea Party candidate.

Overall, the survey found that 13% of American voters consider themselves part of the Tea Party movement.

Said pollster Peter Brown: "The Tea Party could be a Republican dream -- or a GOP nightmare. Members could be a boon to the GOP if they are energized to support Republican candidates. But if the Tea Party were to run its own candidates for office, any votes its candidate received would to a very great extent be coming from the GOP column."

4. CNN poll has a different take on a different poll
they say Democrats in Trouble. that republicans lead but the same as the rest they would loose if the tea party runs. Any body that votes for a republican and wants the same old same old crap as under bush has got to be as crazy as the tea party (KKK) group. And do you think for one minute Democrats are going to be as stupid as that to let the republicans take over again. Heck no. This Qunitec or however you spell it has been scued toward republicans since it started polls.

8. Quinnipiac. It is a university with a polling center here in Connecticut.
I have been there a few times, actually.
Not a bad polling firm but I think the #'s will start to change over time for the generic polls since HCR passed.

and three unknown candidates are running against each other...

6. Neither should make any difference if Dems would quit
whining and get off their duffs and to the polls this election season.

7. Could they hurry and just make this Tea Party movement a party?
With a convention and everything - establish it as a 50 state party and file for federal elections. Please. That will ensure 60+ dem senators and 350+ dem congresspersons for years to come.

9. I see this being a GOP
break up. The vote of the civil rights issue split the party. You had some members of the republican party who were hard core against the civil rights movement (tea party parents). You had a lot of repugs who were openly racist point blank. Now their children (tea party offspring)have taken up the torch. They have been taught and breed hate. What makes this dumb behavior so bad is that these teabaggers don't seem to understand that they are being used because of their hate for others to incite fear and hysteria for corporate gain. They are on medicaid, medicare, food stamps, farm subsides, federal student loans and grants, and other forms of government services or entitlements.Which in my opinion makes me always question their so-called "Patriotism.":hi:

10. I really hope the Tea Party becomes a full third party.
It would be sooooo sweet to see the GOP get completely Naderized...

11. The 13% who claim to be Tea Partyers are almost all Republicans, or vote Republican
That is to say, if 35% of Americans are registered Rs and 13% claim to be Tea Partyers, these are not two mutually exclusive groups. The "Independents" who vote R with regularity also form a part of this group, but they would vote R anyway. So splitting the Republican party by encouraging Tea Party candidates is a good idea.

Let them have their own destructive "Nader" third-party movement for a while. We're over that kind of thing on the left (except for a large contingent that whines here on DU), having seen the consequences: extreme purity in political movements leads to OPPOSITE results.

them unacceptable to average Americans.

13. Ya think?
Let's see, shutting down the Senate, inciting violence, threatening the lives of members of Congress and their families, screaming racial slurs and acts of violence on public property. Yeah, this is not going to bode well for them.

14. Oh, very much so!!!! They will be putting up their own candidates
and taking a lot of money that would have gone to the GOP. Not many Dem tea baggers, but even the RWers don't like the mainstream republicans much and will be independent instead of supporting the GOP.

Guess which party is losing all those votes and cash...
