Well now we know why the right loves their guns so much.
They are getting ready for their own chaos that they plan to foment.

The left might be radical but they are not into and obsessed with guns which makes the left much less of a threat than the right.

Scary times ahead. Just wait til we try to Increase taxes on them.

We don't have much of a tradition so our gun people are new to them

Are you all in the South?

9. I am Originally from NY.
Lived in Georgia and now Virginia -- Most of my friends are liberal. And most of my liberal friends that had guns lived in NY.

I do not have a lot of conservative friends -- by choice.

Guns are not an indication of ideology-- it's how people use guns that makes them ideological.

I am not an ex or a male. :D

I just believe that we need to not think that all gun owners are the same. They are not. Like I said earlier, it is the WAY people use the guns that we should be concerned about.

the right to bear arms might be a right --- but it wasn't meant to be used to scare people.

NOTHING in our constitution was meant to be used to scare people.

34. How can one be neither pro nor anti-gun?
Isn't that like being a little bit pregnant?

A lot of democrats support gun ownership, I think where the dividing line falls is the proliferation of handguns and assault weapons. Most democrats draw the line there, and also insist on background checks.

Many conservatives think it should be a free-for-all when it comes to gun rights for private citizens.

39. Isn't that a bit of a red herring argument?
I care about people having the right to bear arms in accordance to what exists in the constitution -- I also care also about having common sense gun laws.

I hope that you are not assuming anything. My point was that this is not an issue upon which I will lay down my sword upon. I don;t really care about guns -- I care about the laws and the people who own them.

we don't get the publicity the RWers do. Also, the "gun control" groups making the most noise were founded by republicans, and have successfully blamed Democrats for the idiotic anti gun platforms over the years.

42. It's necessary in Rural communities
It can take the Sheriff up to 2 hours to get to your home if you live in the country and we have rabid animals sometimes or coyotes attacking your pets. We used ours maybe once a year to scare off coyotes (just the sound of a shot, not actually hitting them--you shot the dirt) will send them away when they attack my cats & little doggy.

I don't know what they were other than that, lol.

He was a quiet, soft-spoken apolitical type with civil rights sympathies, and very much an early feminist as my sister and I came of age.

It had nothing to do with being attracted to guns.

They were a tool to have around, just like other tools.

16. He grew up on a ranch in the middle of nowhere in NV during the Depression.
Everybody hunted deer and small game to help feed themselves. And being a career USAF officer he also learned small arms and got the highest marksmanship ratings, but he rarely took the pistol out for practice.

Guns were tools for providing food. He got the pistol when I was in JHS, IIRC, in the early 70's.

And he really wasn't "into" guns in any way I could tell, any more than he was "into" lawnmowers. Never even talked about them.

intimidate people for political reasons.

In this case, it isn't the guns, it is how they are being used. I am deeply concerned about 4/19 and the right wing.

bu if you ask me, in my experience with wingnuts- there's more than just fear of government, fear of "the other" and fear of "bad guys" going on.

There's also a macho matter of "compensating"

21. the weird thing about guns..
usually when someone kills someone with a gun, I mean damn near every time in fact, the victim is unarmed. It's such a cowardly, push-button way of dealing with someone. The idea of these people and their veiled threats toward politicians-mostly old guys-those gun toting tea-baggers can't fight like men? they need a gun in their hands against unarmed people? It strikes me as a very cowardly weapon.

38. Bingo.
Carrying a gun around isn't about self-defense. It's all about 1) intimidating the person next to you & 2) being batshit insane afraid of the person next to you.

And when a gun fetishist kills an innocent bystander, he always claims he's not guilty of anything because the victim must have been guilty of something.

23. Guns *and* bullets go bad, sort of.
Cleaning arms is a good idea, corrosion can build up and cause failure. Bullets, depending on the chemistry, can break down, and become less powerful, or the casings can corrode and jam.

43. Guess I am a gun lover.
I have my 30 odd 6 that I used to hunt elk with. Haven't been hunting in years. Probably should clean it one of these days. I have a 38 that I carried in the service in stead of the 45. Its around here somewhere. Memory isn't what it used to be.

If there is an insurrection I guess you had better not rely on me or at least give me a week of so to find my ammo. I don't have to much to worry about. My dog, Zeke, would be better equipped to protect me than I am at this stage.

I have to laugh at those tea-bagging old farts holding up signs decrying Obama as being a Socialist. Hell, its obvious that they are suffering from dementia. If it wasn't for FDR, 99% of them would be eating dog food and wouldn't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of. I feel sorry for their kids, it must be damn embarrassing seeing your mother making a damn fool out of herself holding up sign with misspelled words along side a toothless hillbilly. I swear to God that they must recruit some of these critters with the promise of a free lunch.

I have a rifle and a pistol. I am also a good shot. Don't think there aren't plenty of people of the Left who don't own firearms.

Remember that many Democrats actually served in the military in the past, unlike Republicans, who tend to be country club chickenhawks.
