Beware of the "Reichstag Fire" strategy... |
|
Edited on Thu Mar-25-10 12:47 PM by greencharlie
The Reichstag fire (German: Der Reichstagsbrand) was an arson attack on the Reichstag building in Berlin on 27 February 1933. The event is seen as pivotal in the establishment of Nazi Germany.
The fire was used as evidence by the Nazis that the Communists were beginning a plot against the German government. Van der Lubbe and four Communist leaders were subsequently arrested. Adolf Hitler, who had been sworn in as Chancellor of Germany four weeks before, on 30 January, urged President Paul von Hindenburg to pass an emergency decree to counter the "ruthless confrontation of the Communist Party of Germany".<2> With civil liberties suspended, the government instituted mass arrests of Communists, including all of the Communist parliamentary delegates. With them gone and their seats empty, the Nazis went from being a plurality party to the majority; subsequent elections confirmed this position and thus allowed Hitler to consolidate his power.
Now read that... and think a little. When someone claims to have a bullet thru their plate window... I know it's not practicable right now because they don't have the POTUS, House or Senate, but someday... don't put it past them.

In the scenario above (the torching of The Reichstag), I supposed you're suggesting that the Democrats are the Nazis (the party in power) and the imbeciles threatening Democrats are the Communists (the party out of power)? And you're cautioning against the Nazis (Democrats) overreacting against the Communists (crazy people)? I don't see any sign of that possibility, although it is true that there will eventually be (after someone is killed, which is inevitable, unfortunately) a movement to enforce existing criminal laws that the Communists (crazy people) commit. If that is you're point, and you're warning Democrats because when the roles are reversed and the Democrats become the Communists and the Republicans the Nazis then Democrats might see the same tactics applied against them, well, the flaw in that analogy is that Democrats don't deliver death threats or cut gas lines, so there won't be any provocation or justification for the Republican Nazis to overreact.
It's going to be hard for you after this nicely formatted website to go back to the nearly unreadable freerepublic.com, isn't it? :-)

it was based on the Cantor accusation, evidenced by the last sentence:
Now read that... and think a little. When someone claims to have a bullet thru their plate window... I know it's not practicable right now because they don't have the POTUS, House or Senate, but someday... don't put it past them.

7. Sorry, doesn't hold water. |

The risk of Republicans, out of power and dwindling in membership even as I type, creating some kind of vast police action against Democrats using as an excuse two unsubstantiated threats versus hundreds of threats from Republicans against Democrats defies even the most egregious suspension of disbelief. It is irrational and illogical.
Of course, reading freerepublic.com doesn't exactly inculcate either of those, so it isn't surprising. :-)

try this by bugging a rethug campaign office and then alerting the press to his 'discovery'? I also seem to recall some broken rethug campaign windows during '04 general election.
