Jean Schmidt tape from threatening black man just ain't right...

CNN played a ugly/threatening voice-mail that Republican Jean Schmidt received.

It smelled funny.

Maybe it's real, but the caller sounded a little too 'street' as someone at free republic would imagine 'street' which is to say uncomfortably like a blaxsploitation movie character (I was half-way waiting for the guy to call Schmidt a 'jive turkey')

It just didn't sound right to me. It was so dead-on what a college republican or G. Gordon Liddy type would imagine... so perfect for the cause. His ostensible left-wing fantasy sounded exactly like a right-wing fantasy with the labels switched, talking about how he was going to shoot one of "those tea-baggers" in the face with his nine millimeter.

I am not suggesting that the caller was not a man of color but I question his sincerity. (There are not a lot of militant black tea-baggers but the few there are can reliably be presumed to be extreme weirdos.)

Never say never. God knows what variety of crazy messages any congressional office gets even on a slow day.

But I vote stunt.

If this had been a pattern prior to the last couple days, you could be sure the Republicans would have been all over the airwaves talking about "left-wing thugs" harassing and intimidating Republican representatives over the healthcare vote. Republicans make big deals about that stuff all of the time. Notice that they didn't start this crap until the Democrats started seeing serious, real threats. They are trying to muddy the waters and create moral equivalence where there is none.

34. Real or not, everyone of these types of calls and incidents needs to be fully investigated

a) the truth will out all; (as happened in Cantor cased)
b) there can be no 'cover' of 'they only investigated "so-called" threats against dems."
