Sen. Orrin Hatch reaches a new low in hackery
WHEN EVEN A HACK MANAGES TO EMBARRASS HIMSELF....

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R) of Utah has been nearly as shameless as anyone in making ridiculous and demonstrably false claims about health care policy. But last night, he may have reached a new low. I knew he was a partisan hack, but this one managed to surprise me.

After hearing Hatch complain about the individual mandate, CNN's Campbell Brown noted that he endorsed the identical idea in 1993. "Well," Hatch replied, "in 1993, we were trying to kill Hillary-care, and I didn't pay any attention to that, because that was part of a bill that I just hadn't centered on."

In other words, Hatch endorsed a policy he didn't understand, simply to kill a piece of legislation he also didn't understand. The senator, who's been on the Hill for more than a generation, admitted, on national television, that he promoted an idea that he didn't "pay any attention to," simply as part of a larger ploy.

Mark Halperin, who isn't exactly known for taking a hard line against Republicans, characterized Hatch's on-air remarks as "breathtaking cynicism." It is, indeed.

1. Orrin has never struck me as being particularly consistent in his political philosophy
He seems to say and do whatever seems politically convenient at the moment.

8. Can't argue with that. But I will be forever grateful to Hatch for adding "UPPERDOWNVOTE" to our

political discourse. And he looks so cute when he is saying it in all of his faux sincerity and self-righteous indignation. The one bad thing about Obama getting elected is that suddenly Hatch is no longer so sold on the concept of UPPERDOWNVOTE. Funny how that works.

11. Would proffer the fine senator doesn't have enough integrity for the relatively
mild moniker of a lying piece of shit for he surely is the epitome of, at the apex of, abject total shameless hypocrisy, a disgrace to his high office, the Senate, and the state he represents: that's just my mho. :-)

Every time power changes parties, Hatch's talking points rotate 180°. Without fail.

3. Would Teddy be disappointed in him? Teddy counted him as one of his friends.
Orrin is trying to play a cynical game here and it doesn't work because it is so obvious.

4. Senator Kennedy meant that politically
Hatch had many, many views that Senator Kennedy did not agree with. Hatch is a wildly bigoted person, the Senator was simply not.

5. Orrin's funny underpants are probably too tight... how many wives does he have anyway?
I'm curious. Is he for the sanctity of marriage(s)?
