Republicans don't want the violence to end
They want to be viewed as victims of the violence they helped to incite.

The Undying Shame

Josh Marshall

I'm not sure John Boehner making a generic statement that violence, threats and vandalism aren't legitimate parts of the Health Care Reform debate really cuts it. Especially when his own congressional campaign committee is actively downplaying the importance of violent incidents and even blaming them on the victims.

Thankfully, no one has been injured or killed. But this didn't come from nowhere and it can't be pawned off on a few cranks. Everything that's happened over the last five days has grown from a pattern of incitement going back almost a year -- wildly hyperbolic statements, coded appeals to menacing behavior, flippant jokes about bringing firearms to political events and all the rest. Now Eric Cantor (R-VA) is going on the attack, claiming that who's really to blame here is the Democrats for making a big deal about these acts of violence against them.

No one who is even remotely honest can pretend that anything about this is bipartisan in character. The Right and yes the national Republican party has been stirring this pot for months. We all see this. Cantor's behavior is shameful beyond imagining. It's time for a truth moment for the national Republican party. Incitement matters. They have to take responsibility for what they've done: which is nothing less than a campaign of incitement for which they're now unwilling to take any responsibility.

It's ALIVE!

Henry: Look! It's moving. It's sha--it's... it's alive. It's alive... It's alive, it's moving, it's alive! It's alive, it's alive, it's alive! It's ALIVE!

<...>

Waldman: This creature of yours should be kept under guard. Mark my words. He will prove dangerous.

Henry: Dangerous! Poor old Waldman. Have you never wanted to do anything that was dangerous? Where should we be if nobody tried to find out what lies beyond? Have you never wanted to look beyond the clouds and the stars or to know what causes the trees to bud and what changes the darkness into light? But if you talk like that, people call you crazy. But if I could discover just one of these things, what eternity is, for example, I wouldn't care if they did think I was crazy!

Waldman: You're young, my friend. Your success has intoxicated you. Wake up and look facts in the face! Here we have a fiend whose brain...

Henry: The brain must be given time to develop. It's a perfectly good brain, doctor. You ought to know. It came from your own laboratory.

Waldman: The brain that was stolen from my laboratory was a criminal brain.

Henry: Oh well, after all, it's only a piece of dead tissue.

Waldman: Only Evil can come of it! Your health will be ruined if you persist in this madness.

Henry: I'm astonishingly sane, doctor.

Waldman: You have created a Monster and he will destroy you.

3. The only reason Repugs are "apologizing" is because the nastiness has gotten so much publicity. If
they were sincere, they would have condemned it months ago.

Gingrich Says Democrats ‘Have To Take Some Moral Responsibility’ For Far-Right Death Threats

<...>

Yesterday, former speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (R-GA) spoke alongside Gov. Sonny Perdue (R-GA) at a press conference in Atlanta organized to air Republican opposition to the health care bill that just passed. At one point, Gingrich was asked about the death threats and vandalism lawmakers who supported the bill have been recieving. After stressing that “there is no place for this viciousness” and condemning the various threats and violent acts, Gingrich went on to explain that the Democratic leadership “has to take some moral responsibility” for encouraging death threats and terrorism because of the way they conducted the health care debate:

7. Newt Gingrich has too much time on his hands. He needs to get a job
I would suggest the Atlanta Prison Farm where he could enjoy 3-5 at hard labor growing crops to support the Georgia prison population
