It's sad we have to focus on the tea-party theocracy, racism and militia craziness.
We do have to, of course. Those 'fringe' aspects are what will limit the practical potential of the phenomenon.
But the core message of the tea-party, the 'responsible' and 'understandable' part of the movement, is as destructive and more imminently menacing than guns and hate.
The 'good' tea-party cause of near-term fiscal austerity is a recipe for destruction of our nation and way of life.
But all the supposed wise-men actually support that! The most genuinely threatening part of the whole tea thang is considered to be the GOOD part of their message.
So we are left pointing out all the other bad craziness.

This whole "Tea Party" mess is largely astroturf, courtesy of FOX News and certain Republican operatives. They're hired goons.
Granted, there was some actual grassroots along these lines that grew out of the Ron Paul campaign, but nothing as ludicrous as what you're seeing today.

2. I agree. And it is relatively more reasonable |

Maybe that's their angle: surround the stupidity with outright insanity which makes the stupidity look better.
I cannot fathom how one can ignore the rather obvious problems with our crumbling infrastructure and not see this as a direct result of the republican party's race to the bottom in an attempt to gain people's trust by constantly lowering taxes until we all expect something for nothing.
That is also the ironic part of this: they (the teabaggers) complain that we (the non-crazy people) want "something for nothing" that we're stealing their wealth without wanting to contribute, yet they fail to understand that having a complex society costs money. They refuse to pay taxes but they obviously make what success they have through being a part of that infrastructure. In short, they are the ones sneaking into the party without paying the cover which keeps it afloat.
