Half a million people marched on Washington last week. They didn't get news coverage.

They did not riot.

They did not threaten Congress with guns, pitchforks or revolution.

They did not spit on members of congress or hurl bigoted abuse at them.

They did not declare hate for the President. They don't claim that he is an usurper. They hold respect for him and the position he occupies.

They love America.

They are the true patriots.

They are the people that clean up the shit in the bath rooms, clean the dishes in restaurants and change the dirty sheets at hotels. For that, they get mistreated, get no contract jobs, get no recourse from the Government, get no back up from the police if mugged or worse. They are not even included in the health care reforms just passed.

Despite all of that, they still love America.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

2. Yeah, I also remember when a million people marched to try to stop the war.

Not one minute of coverage on any network or cable news program. Just a three-hour "Free Mumia" infomercial for A.N.S.W.E.R. via CSPAN. But a few thousand goobers gather in the desert and it's a week-long news story. Kinda makes you wonder -- realize -- whose side the media is on.

22. Stop paying for it. Rent Netflix or some similar form of entertainment.
Read. Use the internet. Play board games with your kids or grandkids. Work jigsaw puzzles. Take up a time-consuming hobby. Stay away from the TV. It is habit-forming and swallows your life with its nonsense. You will be surprised at the money you save simply by turning off the TV. When you are constantly bombarded with ads, you buy more. It isn't that you buy what is being advertised, it's just that you become afflicted with contagious consumermania.

Bring quiet and peace into your personal life if you can't bring it to the world. Cancel your cable subscription, and turn on the TV. Select DVDs you want to watch and set aside only a certain amount of your time for watching them.

We did this and are loving the change in our lifestyles. Besides, if you look at your yearly expenses, you will see that you can save a nice bit of money by dropping cable charges.

So far we haven't noticed any downside from canceling cable service.

6. Liberals were protesting at town halls before the Tea Baggers
Go back to 2007 and 2008 and democratic members of congress had tons of protests from people wanting an end to the war in Iraq and an investigation in Bush/Cheney abuses. There should be tons of clips of this on youtube.

That was never reported in the news.

Immigration reform is badly needed in this country as well.

15. Our Corporate-controlled M$M is so much like Soviet-controlled M$M of the 70s
I have seen this so many dozens, perhaps hundreds of times, since 2000 (and it was probably going on long before that, but I wasn't paying attention) that it no longer fazes me.

It is what is, as ironclad as Soviet media must have been in it's rules, but achieved with corporate/economic control, not political/physical control as the Soviets did.

Yet the result is nearly identical, except that our Corporate M$M is a bit more subtle in it's PR/propaganda techniques as it is talored to controlling 21st Century Americans, not 1970s Russians.

A few thousand Teabaggers will get wall-to-wall all day coverage and two weeks of free publicity, while millions of anti-war marchers and others who "aren't REAL Americans" (at least according to the RW Lie Machine/Corporate M$M narrative) will be ignored.

It's just the reality of living in a totalitarian country, even a "kinder and gentler" Inverted Totalitarianism, as the old USA has become today.

21. we canceled satellite/cable 3 yrs ago...
Now we get just OTA TV, almost never watch TV except the now digital PBS station, and then not the news. Lehrer, Gwen Ifel(?sp)...they've sold out too. But there are couple of things non-political, BBC/PBS Masterpiece, some orchestral productions. When I turn to one the MSM stations, I want to throw up. It's no wonder Americans just get dumber.

Which is why I was comparing their march to that of the teabaggers.

And any news networks - cable or 'net - that you subscribe to. My friend says " Why is it - when I hear a thing on the Teevee news about an immigration raid, they're haulin' off a hundred people that are working their asses off?"

30. They needed guns and Congressional sponsors
Part of it, I think, is that the Media go to the lunatic assemblies just giddy that something outlandish might happen.

Considering what shows up at those marches,I'd bet that something bizarre and crazy would happen

It's not so much the numbers that show up, but who shows up and the media's expectations of what happens when they do.

There are congressional reps who are out there beating the drums for the lunatics.

The people at the march posted above have none, because Congress is afraid of being labeled as anti-troops (Even though Obama and Ron Paul got the most donations from military in the 2008 primaries)
